Who has owned a Ford Capri ?

That R5 is a bit special. 160bhp+ in a lightened R5 shell. The engine is behind the front seats so mid-rear engined and it is a homologation special. Back in the day I only ever saw one. In the Highlands of Scotland going like a scalded cat in the opposite direction to me. Epic noise.

It's surprising what turns up at Classic Car Shows, basically anything goes if it is "interesting" there is no formal age that bestows "classic" status on a car, unlike "Vintage" or "Veteran"

I think 'classic' hot hatches are all the rage. I'd love a mint condition XR3i or RS escort.

I would definitely get one for a weekend car (lottery win only). The funny thing is they ain't even 'hot' by todays standards.

You could get a 1L ecoboost fiesta with more BHP than a MK1 Golf GTI😂

In the 80’s I had a Capri Ghia mark 2 and I can also vouch for its lack of road handling, as can a dry stone wall not far from my house.

I’m sure someone on here still has one (Boro in Buxton?). I had a Mk1 facelift, passed my test in that and then three mk3’s, the last being a Laser, wish I still had it.

2.8s are going for well over 20k... minters even mire

Classics of the future are gonna be harder to identify purely but the sheer volume that are produced meaning exclusivity is not going to be that much of a factor.

As said above the Clio Williams is in the mix but has been for a while

Focus RS can be added too and maybe the M3

The specials done by in house tuning divisions are a good bet too... paramount Arden for Jag... Hartage for BMW to name a few

Mk1 Mazda MX-5 is already a bone fide classic. Mk2 on the verge. BMW/Mini Cooper S and JCW are on the cusp, GP1 certainly is. Porsche 911 (964 model) for a while now. Mercedes W123 ("The Beirut Taxi") in. Probably W124 as well. Toyota MR2 (all models). MGF. Vauxhall Calibra (when did you last see one? Can you find one that hasn't been "Halfordised"?)

Probably the only sign of impending classic status is when prices/values hit rock bottom and start to go up as rarity increases.

there is a website that tells you how many of a particular car are on the road, howmanyontheroad I think. I have an RX8 which is well on its way to being a classic.

I had a 2 Ltr S in '83 (not new). First week I had it, went to Murrayfield to see Bowie then carried on to work at Nigg Bay. That old A9 road was a bit scary in those days (big drop offs at the side of the road).

Always wanted to get a 2.8i but it never happened

I had a T reg 3.0S as my first car, Silver with a black vinyl roof- absolutely loved it, but my God it was a handful in the wet. You would get wider tyres on a Fiat Panda these days :)

I had an orange Manta as my first car. Insurance wasn't a worry in those days! £500, really old but never let me down and so fun to drive. Never had a Capri but always wanted one. Poor mans e-type :)
Mine was also my first car. A black one.

Same for me. As a young squaddie posted to Germany in the late 80's, I bought a 1978 Opel Manta Berlinetta as my first car.
