Who lives??

My father-in law has being going to see the doctor for months but not saying to the family what it’s for. “ Oh it’s nothing”. He then had a ”little op” a few weeks age we thought on his colon. My with sent me a message to say he has aggressive bladder cancer and they want to start treatment immediately, but he’s got to wait three weeks due to staff shortages because of COVID which could be decisive. I shout add he’s an active 78year old.
My mother-in-law on the other hand is one of the “vulnerable“ has been ill for years and has limited organ function.
What’s upset my wife the most is the thought that her Dad might have to die so we can protect her mother who although happy enough is virtually housebound and goes from her bed to her chair.
How many families up and down the country must be going through this awful dilemma but rather than with a 78 year old maybe an 8,18 or 28 year old needing life saving treatment but unable to get it because “ we must protect the vulnerable”! This can’t continue surely. As a caveat my Dad went into a care home a month ago.
Has it really come down to families having to choose which family member lives to save the Tories blushes......sorry “Our NHS”.
Oh, and COVIDIOTS who think “it’s only a flu” need not join in.

Best wishes , one can only imagine the despair you’re all feeling . What a noble gentleman to Put the family first and keep his trouble played down attempting to not distress you all .

Awful, it really is, not just for the families but those on the front line having to make the decisions after a decade of austerity making their jobs harder and harder.

We really need to take a good hard look at society's priorities.

Agree CTC but I feel the way society is going the greedy, selfish and uncaring seems deeply entrenched in some parts of the country. So yes things need to change but how.

Thanks for the empathy guys and as my wife said the most upsetting bit is the frustration of not being able to do anything.
I can empathise mate.

Years of cuts have found us in the schitt when we need a robust NHS with the capability to handle difficult situations.
Covid or not - life needs to go on.

A family member is in her 50s and has been waiting for a hip operation for 20 years - each time being told she is "too young" (!) - she will need a further replacement in 10 years.
Its flippin disgusting.

I know this doesnt help you and countless others right now - but the shortage of qualified health professionals [fkd up by the points based immigration system / hostile environment / abolition of support by the Tory`s to support new nurse training / cuts in wages / stretched staff / lack of basic services / privatisation] - is why we are in the schitt right now.

If it helps - I made a referral on behalf of a client at the beginning of the year - who had been waiting two years for treatment and for P.I.P as he was unable to work. At first he was told to carry on waiting, but we kicked his GP / Consultant and bombarded the department with phone calls and official letters stressing urgent need and deteriorating health. We managed to get him "slotted in" to a "cancelled appointment" and he is now on the up.

We shouldnt have to pull rank - we all need to be more assertive and not take the crap we get fed. I know its hard on fellow professionals, but its no excuse saying "we are short of resources" because at the end of the day its the "patient" who comes first - always - not excuses.

All power to your elbow Woodall.(y)

Regards to the lads btw.
