Who was best, Viduka, Boksic or Ravanelli?

I think he would have scored many more goals with a better all round team. I remember some matches it was just him and Juninho passing to each other, it was the like the best two players in the school team having a game on their own. Emerson made it a trio when he had got out of bed the right way.
Rav couldn't possibly have played in a better attacking Boro team in the last 30 years, than the one in 96/97.

Rav's celebrity seems to have increased his stock as a footballer.

Boksic was superb but for our club it was Viduka for me. He was much more consistent and gave more than just his goals. I loved seeing him lead the line.

Can't beleive that nobody has thought to add the Gook to this list!

Blink and you'll miss it :p

Boksic comfortably the most talented - a world class footballer. Only turned it on in dribs for us though, but occasionally he would do something you didn't think was possible.

Viduka my favourite of the three and a 'proper' solid centre forward - will always remember those European nights.

Hamilton Ricard was the 69th different Boro player to score a penalty, he went on to score 6 in total

His last converted penalty was on the 13th January 2001 home to Derby & in the same game we scored two penalties for the 12th time in our history, we've had 14 penalty doubles in our history, Boksic scored the other one

My good mate was pro at boro at the time Boksic was there. Funny thing is just before lockdown November we were having a drink and got on about Boksic. He always said he smoked like a chimney but he'd never seen anyone finish like him. Said he just never missed the target.

I remember him saying pre fa cup semi final Boksic had said if we lose he won't be playing again this season as he wants to be fit for the world cup. Funny enough he didn't play again (from what i recall)
I remember saying something similar to my old fella at the final whistle in the Arsenal semi final. I think Boksic had also been 'injured' in the run up to that game?!

Agreed, 04/05 we finished 7th, 6 points behind Everton in 4th. However Viduka only played 15 games through injury and Boateng only 25. Considering Jon and Nemeth made 55 appearances between them and Doriva played instead of Boateng for 13 games, I would like to think we would have made it. It was also our first UEFA season, so having two key players unavailable meant that second rate players had to play lots of midweek UEFA games then league games 3 days later with no rest. With a bit of luck then, yes we could have made the champs league.
Really should have got Champions League that season, instead just made the Uefa Cup. Two games spring to mind, 4-1 up v Norwich going into the last ten minutes and drew 4-4 and drawing one all at home v Everton after leading and being the better side.

Yeah I think there was about 4 games left. He had “a knock” or something apparently. But as my mate said he made it well know at the club he wont play again if we lost

I said better ‘all round team’.

In case you’ve forgotten - we got relegated that season.

Fair point if it was true. But it's not, not even close. Viduka did miss a lot of his first season through injury.

however after that.

05/06 - 43 games
06/07 - 37 games

Nothing like 1 in 3.
Sorry if I underestimated his appearances without checking, must do better next time before offering an opinion on a player.

His premier league record of starting matches for us is -

4/5 - 19 in 38
5/6 - 19 in 38
6/7 - 22 in 38

I agree it’s better than 1 in 3 but it’s not marvellous for a key position is it? So I’m still happy with my general point.

Don‘t get me wrong I think Viduka was top quality for us but just not available enough on a consistent basis for the bread and butter league games.

Just to compare, Rav played 33 out of 38 in 96/97 as well as another 15 in cup games, he was usually available.

How many penalties did Slaven score?
