Who's got the BUZZ for the new season?

I feel really excited about this coming season. More so than I have for as long as I can remember. Proper manager, good structure to the club for a change and excited fans saying positive things. Even a proper local derby to look forward to.

Bought my first ever season ticket for myself and my 5 year old boy on the back of his enjoyment of going to the cup games last season. Even my brother who lives in Leeds has bought a season ticket with us!

Promotion would be fantastic but just looking forward to the ride to be honest. I love the championship and being there or there abouts all season is all I'm looking for. Then let's see how we can finish the season off.

Yes, I was one of those part time fans last season that seem to be hated so much by so many.....but it's led to the full commitment of 3 new season ticket holders for this next campaign.

Nobody hates part time fans. You're a fan and that's it . Enjoy the ride UTB

By Xmas last season, it was obvious Wilder & Co had moved the team up a notch, they were unable to continue doing in the last 3 months.

But you had to just extrapolate a full season of Wilder with even the same players and we were a top 6 side. Our squad was too small in August 2021 and I don't think that mistake will be repeated.

Its starting to look obvious the August 2022 side will be stronger than the May 2022 side.

Of course the Championship could be stronger as whole. We saw how Huddersfield and Luton finished above us with probably smaller budgets and were sides not expected to top half even. Preston managed to do the double over. Its one tough division.

With crowds 3k more at home that will help too.

Yeah I'm excited too.

GK, LCB, DM and 3 x ST's and we'll be good to go I reckon. I'd really like more signings than loans if we can.

Then a couple of PL loan signings in August as the big boys sort their squads out, to provide cover/competition where we're lacking.

I have to say that I'm excited. I'm almost always excited about Boro but this has been a really good week for us, hasn't it?

I think Lenihan is a really shrewd signing. We've needed a proper captain, a leader of men, at the back for ages. The new 'keeper is highly rated and this manager knows his 'keepers. Giles is well thought of and has good experience of this division. He could be a real gem. Howson has his new deal.

I personally think the new shirt is smart(apart from the sponsor, obvs). It's the sort of shirt where if you close your eyes, you can see the players celebrating promotion in it. The polar opposite of the 2009/10 shirt, for example. Big things happen to Boro when Errea make our shirts, that's a fact.

Then the club announce 18,000 season tickets already sold, which is probably a few thousand more than we'd sold at this stage last year. It shows that a lot of people are buying into this manager and what he brings to us. To my mind it sort of reminds me of something McClaren said near the end of his first season as manager, when he said he realised the potential of this club when 30-odd thousand Teessiders went to Old Trafford for the Arsenal semi final decked in red and white and out-sung the opposition, staying to applaud the players off despite losing the game. I have a sense Wilder thinks he can achieve something similar, with a promotion and a couple of really good cup runs.

I think the club have cleared out almost all of the expensive drek that hadn't produced the goods over a number of years. There is scope for more good signings. Everything is in place for a really good season ahead IMO. And Steve Bruce coming to town and getting walloped 3-0 on the telly in the first game of the season? Yes please.
Ref Old Trafford - I would with hindsight say we could have easily taken 15k for a 4th round cup tie on a Friday night - I know some disagree on here but Teesside is a football area and the fans are not as fickle as some believe.

If we get good keeper and 2 or 3 proper goalscorers then yes i will have hope again. Still think we need a proper player as a no 10 like a illias chair or gaston, merson. That kind of maverick that most teams cant contain when they park the bus.

It’s a good start to our business, but I’ll reserve judgement until i see how we resolve our main issues from last season… strikers and goalkeeper
Was our main issue last season strikers or creativity from midfield or out wide paricularly in the latter part of the season?

Did our strikers miss too many cances or did we fail to create enough chances for our strikers?

Genuine question. Im in two minds 🤔

If you have a midfielder out scoring yiur stikers that suggests your strikers aren’t upto it imo

That tingling feeling at the Riverside v Spurs epitomises everything about the New Wilder Era.
Hadnt felt that good for many years - even better than promotion back in 2017.
Now we have his players coming in.
This season is going to be awesome.

"The new 'keeper is highly rated and this manager knows his 'keepers." Well he played a right spud for 30 games b4 he knew that particular keeper.

Wilder knows what we need
So far it looks like we’re bringing that in
No room for sentimentality
Apart from the new kit
Which I might be starting to fall for
I’m happy with the sort of players we’re bringing in
Understated, overlooked, hidden gems.

Last season was a pretty wild ride considering we didn’t make the playoffs.
The players coming in seem to be improvements on what is going out.
The same story season on season this has not necessarily been the case.
I’d like to think we start off the season with a full compliment of players, no holes, no square pegs, no dippers, no social media hashtag doing anything but bring a footballer.

Concerns, I have a few.. will our songwriting abilities be able to keep up on last season.
We certainly outdid ourselves! We’re gonna need names ASAP oh, and the eggs! What are our lads doing with their eggs in the morning?

Not yet no. The first three signings look promising but I’m not keen on the idea of Gayle and Mcgoldrick coming in if it happens. Not sure if Wilder is the right one for the job yet either 😆

We need to sign forwards and then i'll get excited until then, it just means more people, watching us not score goals, in a different top.

Great post. Plenty to look forward to. Some great early signings and the prospect of a new keeper coming in and a striker or two is really exciting. I know there are plenty of fans who will get seriously peed off if we don't go up next season, but I honestly don't mind if we don't go up. Just to see us being competitive, playing good football will be a refreshing change since the Monk, Pulis, Woodgate seasons. Wilder has been a breath of fresh air, along with his backroom staff and recruitment staff. All bodes very well. Can't wait for the season.

I'm very optimistic. Last week was a brilliant week with those 3 signings (Howson signing a new deal), however I am still slightly nervous with the thought of who will be playing up front for us.

I think the striker position is by far now the most important position we need to address now. We desperately need a good striker. Not necessarily someone who can score 25+ goals, but someone who can cause real problems to the opposition. We have seen over the years that sometimes our best striker in our team isn't our best goalscorer.

Take Nugent for example, he was very good for us the season we gained promotion and only scored 8 goals for us, and yet I wouldn't have swapped him for a 25+ goal a season player!

Need 2 new good strikers to help with Watmore & Coburn (assuming he doesn't go out on loan) and I think we're about there with our squad.

And I still believe we have the best manager in this division.
