Why do schools close when it’s snows

Because modern children (and often their parents too) are in the main complete amd utter fannies. They $hit their pants at the thought of it being too icy to use their car and having to actually "step into the cold stuff".

The thought of simply asking their kids to enjoy the adventure of walking through a foot of snow dreaming of being an antarctic explorer, or simply chucking the smaller ones on a sledge and dragging them over the snedge into school would fill their precious lily-livered souls with horror and make them fear for their lives?

Safeguarding issues is the big thing - kids are much more protected now than say in the 1970s.

Most teachers will still do preparation work, marking, admin work, online training, report writing, when the school is closed, In fact they wil be told by their superiors this is an opportunity to catch up on your backlog.

I do a little non teaching in an educational establishment as bank work (about 1.5 hours per week over 52 weeks) - they sent me 5 online courses to complete in a week - 20 pages long each with tests that you have to achieve 80% to pass. The training was on Data Protection, Health and Safety, Cyber security, safeguarding etc. Non directly related to what I do.
Or maybe then will do what my sister in law who is a teacher and their school has closed and send me this “Snow dayyyyyyyyyy 🥳😛” knowing it will wind me up …. No marking or prep or admin for her
