Why is Bamford not in the England conversation?

But Kane is another level to St Paddy who plays like Bielsa asks for the unit ...... but people don't seem to notice the amount of misses !!!

Of course Kane is another level but I’m not sure DCL or Watkins are another level to him. I couldn’t slide a fag paper between the three of them personally.

Seems like Phillips is the new whipping boy on here now instead of Mount.

Good on him I say, a few years ago he was in a struggling championship team.

Goal contributions (goals and assists)
Kane 32 (19goals, 13 assists)
Bamford 21 (14 goals and 7 assists)
Watkins 15 (12 goals and 3 assists)
DCL 14 (14 goals and 0 assists)

Bamford is a better passer and creator than Watkins and DCL. It's ludicrous to say that Bamford shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad particularly while claiming Watkins and DCL are a shoe in. He's an excellent player, and seems a decent guy, so good luck to him

Well I certainly think he should be part of the conversation is all I’m saying.

When DCL looks a shoo in? And Watkins looks likely to go too.
He is 'in the conversation' as far as I can tell. His name is frequently mentioned by pundits, analysts etc, and by the England manager.

Southgate has talked about him a lot recently, telling Sky Sports for instance that Bamford was "very close" to being in the squad and admitting that he was “very unfortunate” to miss out. So he is clearly in Southgate's thinking.

Southgate tells Bamford, Alexander-Arnold why they missed England cut

Fair enough. I watched that Neville/Carragher special though and he wasn’t even mentioned. Appreciate that this is not definitive.

I think there are a couple of good reasons why DCL is preferred.

First is his superiority as a finisher: I e not got the stats to hand but Bandied has had around 5.5 shots per goal, while DCL has less than 4.

The second is age. Kane is the centre forward so whoever you take in that position is back up. It helps if they're one for the future. We think of PB as young, but he's 27, same age. He's not going to replace Kane when he gives us international football. DCL could, and I believe GS looks at succession.

Finally, Bamford can hardly be considered a "form player" can he? 4 goals in 15 games since the turn of the year isn't a disaster, but it's not going to force him into the squad if he wasn't in it before.

I agree PB is in the conversation, but I agree with the conclusion that DCL is better.

When England strikers are all fit. I would have them listed:
1. Kane
2. Ings
3. Callum Wilson
4. DCL
5. Watkins
6. Bamford

I honestly think if you put Callum Wilson in that Leeds team, he would have at least 5/6 goals more than Bamford. The amount of chances Paddy gets and fluffs is remarkable (that's not saying he's a good striker mind).

Obviously Vardy would be in the picture if he came out of retirement.

Also mention to a recent call up of Tammy Abraham.

And Rashford/Sterling aren't strikers when it comes to England as they tend to normally play out wide.

I do think Mason Greenwood looks like he could be something special in later years when Kane eventually retires. His finishing is quality.
