Wilder says Boro wont be bullied over Spence deal

Wilder's tough talk is all guff, we aren't in a strong position at all. We have a player who is desperate to get away and we are even more desperate to sell, to fund our major summer transfers.
We don't know Boros exact financial position. As far as we are aware we a good with FFP and, as always, have a few quid to spend. The Spence money may mean we loan a couple of players rather than buying outright, but I'm sure Scott/Wilder will have a number of scenarios pencilled in depending on whether a. We get the full say £15m b. It's £12m or c. He stays.
Everything is very much rumour and media driven at present.

I would argue ffp means are only way to spend millions on players is to sell Spence. The days of Gibson putting his own millions for signings has gone with Ffp

No it hasn’t. We will lose a lot of money every season in the Championship, which Gibson finances in ever increasing loans.
It is FFP that matters. At present we are peachy.
Key factors: Revenue is rising, Wages are more reasonable, Amortisation is currently low and squad value over book value is very high on contracted players.
Gibson O’Neill cover cash flow concerns, so he will be wanting to capitalise on fan base/manager/DOF harmony.
We will spend more on fees than we receive IMHO and because Spence and likely other sales would be pure profit above book value, our ability to spend has not been this good for a long time.
Gibson has worked very hard to get to this place.
Strap yourself in, I think he is going to have a right go, just without the bluster this time. Impressive if he does.

It all depends on the player, Wilder may have the people skills lacked by Warnock, Spence may decide to spend another season here, in which case all of a sudden we have a £15m player on the books this promotion push.
One swallow does not make a summer.

He might be tasked with keeping Jones out of the team to earn a move in January?

For all we know a move to a big club could lead to an immediate loan for him to develop.

If you’re going top six for £20m there won’t be any questions regarding attitude and application.

A few weeks ago there were rumours that several different clubs were after him. I am not sure if there was any substance behind the rumours, but if one other club start sniffing around, then the deal might get done fairly quickly.

I cant see a deal being done with Spurs tbh
We won’t have asked about Mitrovic this summer though.
might have done?

Little chance of a Premier League side will buy Gyokeres. Coventry make ask for £20 to £25m but they are not going to get it. Spence has shown he can hold his own against Premier League players.

Partly true I suspect. If you sign a 20 million pound player the odds are you will be paying for it over a number of ffp periods ie 5 million a year for 4 years (also take clauses into account eg promotion are part of headline figure)

The same is true for Spence sale of course.

The only time you get all the money up front seems to be when a release clause is met so we will have got the full 19 million in one go

Good , if spurs are not willing to meet our valuation then he stays in the reserves for the rest of his contract (which is a long one)

He isn’t on high wages here, and he wastes a significant part of his youth stuck in reserves . Spence ought to pressure spurs if he truly wants to go . If not and he refuses to play here then he merely stays in the reserves

If Spence had anything about him he’d be wanting to play for Forest.

It's a bluff possiton on our part in terms of him staying and other clubs know it. He doesn't want anything to do with Boro he's made that abundantly clear and he would be a disruptive influence. Even if we did keep him his contract is running down so he will be worth less by the end of this season.

If he stays he plays surely! He has never played under Wilder and might be willing to give it another go here under a new manager. You don't stick a good player in the reserves because a few fans have seen their **** with him, we are trying to get promoted and he has shown he could help us achieve that if his head is on right. We could do with the money but we can be shrewd enough to build something without it too.

Worse case scenario he goes out on loan again for 3/4 million and sold January or next summer. We have already made 4 million from Spence loan to Forest.

When we get the money, or pay the money is cash flow. Don’t worry about that.
When we book a profit on player sale it all hits that year. If Spence is sold for£20m this summer it will all be booked as profit THIS year, impacting across the FFP calculations for 3 years.
If we buy Goykeres for £15m on a 4 year contract, then he will be amortised at £3.75m per season for 4 years until his book value on the balance sheet will be zero (as with Howson and McNair now). So the hit on FFP will be £11.25m across that same 3 year FFP period.

I’m not saying clubs won’t want fees up front and to delay instalments on purchases, but that is cash flow, not FFP which runs from Profit Before Tax with allowances added back in.
