Wilder's accent

I read on Wikipedia that he's from Sheffield, but his accent on that MFC interview was really strange and almost brummieesque...

Doesn't look like he's spend much time in the West Midlands, so where on earth has that come from ?

Yes, I noticed it as well. On the whole he speaks like a Yorkshireman with a Brummie slant. Maybe he picked it up from his time at Alfreton although that's in the East Midlands.

I think he sounds very similar to Jamie Vardy, though obviously older.

Both from Sheffield and Vardy started his senior career at Stockbridge.

Its not a Midlands accent, but quite different from say Barnsley (Darren Gough accent) which is not far from North Sheffield (Stocksbridge). The Wilder/Vardy accent is almost like a subdued accent and quite monotone. the opposite from say a sing/songy Irish accent. Interestingly accent wise different from Warnock and they are both Sheffield. I guess its like comparing Loftus and Berwick Hills.

Speaking as a Yorkshireman (and a little bit less proud due to YCCC right now) he sounds nowt like Yorkshire to me. He's definitely got a north midlands twang. Definitely not Sheffield - compare with Warnock - so I suppose he must be one of those whose accent has changed when he has moved.

He's a Sheffielder, but has had to tone it down spending much of his adult life darn sarf.....something us Boro lads living in the south will relate to. It's not about not being proud of your roots, just making sure people at work can understand you without having to repeat everything🤣

I live down south, but I've never adopted a Birmingham accent in order to be understood. He's also spent the majority of his time in the north and the midlands.

A hairdresser once guessed at my accent being Brummie. I speak a London version of Teesside. She also said my accent was sexy. I said you don't know what a Brummie accent sounds like do you. No one has ever thought a Brummie accent to be sexy. She was from Australia to be fair. A good Teesside accent has been known to give women a proper wide on.
