Woman slashed at speakers corner

so it's one person with extremist views being attacked by another person with extremist views.

I don't see the need to bring God into it, these are extremists, their beliefs should not be thrust onto others by generalising "God"

it's 2 nutters, where one uses her voice to insult every Muslim and the other idiot (who possibly lacks the intellect) used a knife to attack her for the hate she preached.

Was she preaching hate? Serious question. I must have missed that.

as far as I can see, she goes there regularly to attack and insult Islam/Quran/Muslims etc.

That doesn't mean she deserves to be stabbed though.
whatever it was about, nobody deserves to be brutalised in this way. You would imagine that this was a pre-meditated attack which makes it worse. I hope they catch the low-life soon.

It sounds like it was they that brought their personal gods into it from what you write. I have not seen any reports myself that make this fact yet though, do you have any links? Extremists or not anyone who attacks someone with a knife (save for occasional self defence) is a nutter, I will grant you that. Someone speaking at Speakers Corner giving their view may or may not have extreme views but that does not necessarily make them illegal and as you rightly point out certainly does not deserve to be attacked with a knife. If she was preaching hate toward Islam, muslims or whoever else, then the police should have been called sooner to arrest her. Religion of all types it seems to me is hijacked by some across the world and used as a cloak by organised criminals and thugs for power, wealth and a method to control societies. So sad for the decent law abiding majority who value their beliefs so highly.

The problem for Rob and the Admins is that we have had posters in the past who will post stuff like this to provoke a reaction. Oddly they all seem to post stories about Islamic fundamentalism. They dance on the fence shouting look at how terrible this is. This can often lead to other posters, in a way understandably, getting angry and upset posting stuff that gets them banned.

I think the question needs to be asked and the people who post this should think about where they found out about this story, the source (as pointed out this source is of dubious motivation) and why you think it needs to be posted. If you can honestly answer those questions and think it is a valid topic for discussion then post away. But if your motivation is "this makes me really angry and I think it will make other people angry" you need to think twice about posting it. Especially since the narrative surrounding the incident is unproven.
I found out about the story from my wife and kids as they knew I was going to speakers corner on the Sunday, the sources posted all over the internet many of course coming from groups and individuals that like to discuss and debate their views at speakers corner. This could be any one or multiples of flat earthers, Christian fundamentalists, Pro Palestine, Pro Israel, Conservative, Labour, Green, Save the Panda, Save the Whale, Ban the Bomb etc etc

I've been posting for regularly from 2005 and have never posted anything that would suggest an ulterior motive, islamophobia or anything that could be even remotely construed as being racist. I'm not dancing on any fence here, someone was stabbed for expressing their opinion at a well known spot for people doing exactly that.

It's an interesting one this ; was the woman wearing a Charlie Hebdo t-shirt because she likes the magazine so much, or was the real reason to offend people of a certain faith?

There's sometimes a fine line between free speech and actions driven by hate.

On other words not promoting your given subject, rather than attacking someone else's.
Why should wearing a Charlie Hebdo t-shirt upset people of a certain faith? People of ALL faiths were upset that 12 people were killed by two men claiming to represent a terrorist group and there is a huge difference between free speech and actions driven by hate, Hatun Tash was exercising her right to free speech, her attacker's actions were driven by hate.

You can be critical of someone's opinion, and you can disagree with someone else's belief.. but you can't just rock up and stab someone. It doesn't matter what the subject is or what their position was.

Until you explain how the universe started I will believe in fairies.
Keep this under your hat, it wasn’t the fairies, they came much later, Legend has It was started 13.8 billion years ago by a naughty Unicorn in one of the multiverses, puncturing a hole in its side with its horn causing a big loud whooshing noise and lots of rocks were sucked through that collided together, bouncing around like a pinball machine forming planets. The rest is history.

Seems reasonable to me, I will remember that when I genuflect on Sunday. I will ask Stephen Hawkins in the hot dark place, he started to believe in The man on the moon.

I think you've missed my point, which was an obvious one really, that CH "offended" the Islamic faith and some crazy fundamentalists....well, you know the rest.

I would have to question whether the person who wore the CH t-shirt was standing up for free speech, or using it to antagonize some people of a particular faith.

It's an obvious point, albeit one I don't know the answer to.

It certainly wasnt a slant at you and your post, which I largely agree with - regardless of the motivation it could never justify the attack you describe.

I have watched quite a lot of Speakers Corner debates, on all kinds of subjects - where apostates and so on point out all kind of "problems" with a certain book. And often debate with the other side - it does get a bit silly and shouty, but did often wonder if it would be a question of when rather than if something kicked off.

before something existed.. nothing existed, an infinite nothingness.. for that infinite nothingness to exist we need to have an infinite somethingness.

nothing exists, everything exists

CH offended the islamic faith? The entire islamic faith? I’m not entirely sure that was the case.. but I’m happy to be corrected.

The fact the person was at speakers corner would suggest that they were standing up for free speech. The subject matter they chose to speak about or have debated could have been anything.

Seems legit, no more unbelievable than some of the other fairy tales.👍

It feels like you're either being obtuse, or deliberately misinterpreting what I posted.

sorry. but standing somewhere and insulting others beliefs is not standing up for free speech, it's simply using free speech to insult others.

do you think a Boro fan standing at speakers corner insulting Geordies, or a Nazi standing there shouting their disgust at Jews is acceptable, simply because they stand at Speakers corner?

Free Speech is a privilege, using it to spread hate is an abuse of privilege. Though that still does not warrant being attacked by an idiot with a knife.

The right to free speech is not an absolute right. You have an absolute right to think anything in your own head, but freedoms to express those thoughts come with restrictions and duties of care within the laws of the country you are in.
