Womans football

Sorry, I don't recognise this at all? "Increasingly difficult" - scroll down another 20 or so pixels on your screen! "Any info" - I cannot think of a time when there has been more information about the minutiae of football in this country than right now.

Sorry, no.

The Grauniad does the Champoinsihp

Clicked on that, and bang, there's a report about the top 100 female footballers in the world. Yet nothing about The Championship.

Then clicked on 'Football' and same report about the top 100 female footballers.

Still nothing about The Championship.

Finally click on 'The Championship' for news, And the latest news is dated 04 December.....

Perhaps use a different news outlet? The BBC has Preston sacking Frankie McAvoy 18 hours ago on their Championship page. It's all out there, a little different to checking page 302 on Ceefax as your only source.

I think they have a long, long, long way to go/ wait. Even if we have a load of girls playing now, at say 15 years old, it will take decades to get subscribers to pay to watch them (or sponsors to back them to the same levels), which is where the funding comes from.

I think once enough of these young uns grow up, to be 20,30,40,50 etc, then it might start to catch up, but because there are a lot of players, it doesn't mean there are a lot of fans (comparatively), and even far less subscribers/ sponsors willing to pay for it.

The football fans, subscribing to Sky now have an age of what, 20-80 (probably largely men), and an average around what, 40-50? They were likely playing football as a kid, on average 30 years ago (but a range from 1950 onwards, not many women playing then), so viewers/ subscribers now is a product of what was happening that long ago.

It would be like the local Saturday league, asking for parity with the Premier League, it's never going to happen as there is nowhere near as much demand for it, it's not cost effective for the Premier League/ Sky/ Carling or whatever to do it, as they will not get the same return. When demand increases for the womens game, then the money will ramp up.

To be honest I think the best chance of speeding this up (which I want to happen, in line with viewer numbers), is to maybe start to integrate some women's players into the men's game, if they're good enough? I'm not sure how their standard compares?

I am of the opinion that the mens game should subsidize the womens game the same as the prem subsidizes the lower tiers in the mens game, however they probably shouldn't subsidize prize money. I have watched a few womens games and thought they were OK to watch if there was no other football on.

Get young girls into the sport, in fact get them in to any sport, along with boys. Get our kids active in whatever way you can.

As mutley said, I hate golf as a spectator sport, so I don't watch it.

The standard is terrible . The fact the the Dallas under 15 boys team beat the USA ladies national team sums it up for me in terms of standard .

I would argue that a 15 year old athlete is much stronger than a femal athlete so it wasn't a like for like comparison in terrms of technique

Integrating players isnt the way , we dont put male sprinters into the Womens team to make the Athletics better . Silly point for you to make

If the FA hadnt banned female football in the 1920s where would it stand now ? They banned them as they were becoming at that time more popular than the Mens Equivalent .....

1000 goals !!!!

I don't understand why the women's teams have formed themselves around men's football clubs to be honest, other than simply marketing and due to the infrastructure being in place already.

So essentially you have a load of new football teams affiliated with clubs that they actually have absolutely nothing to do with and have not contributed to in any way.

The men's football league is steeped in history and the women's football league has just taken this on.

Possibly you need to look at why the women's football had been so popular during that time. Anything to do with about 5 million young men going away to fight a war that finished just a few years earlier?

25 grand vs 1.9 million is a differance in prize money but does anyone really care? Who watches woman football?
I've watched a fair few female games and find them enjoyable. The thing I like best is that when one of the women gets hit in a hard tackle, they don't fall to the ground as if they've been shot and roll around as if they are dying. They just get on with the game, without the histrionics of the men.
And I've never seen a female player go up and give the ref grief and get in their face over a decision
Sure they are not the same standard or skill level as the men's game, but that's not the point.
I'm sure the women playing won't mind if a few men who just don't get it don't turn up to watch.
And it will get more women interested in the game and that could lead to more women turning up to Boro games as their interest int eh beautiful game expands.
But hey, it's not as good as the men's game and never will be so why bother, according to some?

Who was it going to watch these games ?
Are you saying they only watched them play because there was nothing else to do ?

I'm not too sure if the women's game is that different-- ok there's a gender differential but they still pass, shoot and score the same so I'm not too sure why [some] posters are saying its different from the men's game-- it really isn't. If we take a look at other sports where we've tried to endear the public to other copied efforts for instance like American Baseball or Football we know all too well it failed, albeit not for the want of trying with money and TV coverage. I suppose it'll work it's way out of the fog of the sports and gender wars.

I'd rather watch paint dry, watching womens football is like watching an under 7s game. Its so poor.

That being said I wish them all the best in gaining a bigger audience but I can't see it happening.

Haven’t read all the replies but no proper football fan cares about woman football
You mean no proper misogynist old git cares about women's football, surely?
Real, proper, football fans want to see good football, and I've seen some very good women's games.
But you wouldn't know as you don't care. Perhaps watch some and you may be surprised.
The Women's World Cup Final has some games in NZ in 2023 and I'm really looking forward to it.

Just because someone has no interest in women's football it doesn't make them a "misogynist old git"
