World cup qualification. How many games?

Seems like a daft question, but struggling to find an answer after some Googling.

Do we play everyone in our group twice, one home and one away? 10 games total.

If we beat Poland even we may as well 'start the car'.

I think its time we acknowledge that we are a very good side. WC semis and a penalty shootout away from winning the euros. The strengh in depth is unreal.

We frankly breeze these qualifying groups without getting out of second gear.

Win on Wednesday then start experimenting new things as a trial for next few games (so we can use that for the World Cup etc just in case.)

Poland are no mugs though. I expect them to finish 2nd to be honest.

The radio said almost certain to qualify with 2 games to play. Possibly with 3 (although you'd want to win the group).

I don't see many international sides making as many changes as us for a qualifier. We almost played last night like a league cup match.

For me I think the group should just play one set of games.......in Englands case just 5 and do away with the standard 5x Home and 5x Away....make it a lottery on whether you play home or away but over 5 games

*my god that was long winded, I`m sure there was an easier way to get my point across :(

We need to throw some difficult friendlies into the mix before the World Cup.

Brazil, Argentina or Mexico at Wembley and Italy, Belgium or Germany away. A home nations tournament would be great next summer but you run the risk of injuries there.

Poland away is a proper game for England and should provide a really good test. That said, England are the better team and should put away the Polish.

Only the group winners are guaranteed to qualify for the World Cup and it’s hard not to see England winning the group by a few points.

How would that work? some nations would play 3 home and 2 away whilst others play 2 home and 3 away-not exac fair

It`s not perfect I`ll admit and just my opinion on what it should be

Think (without looking at the current positions) you can pretty much read who will qualify from each group after they have played one round of games

Not entirely sure it`s fair to drag the likes of San Morino around Europe, especially as it`s impossible for them to qualify as it stands

I`m sure there are cons to what I`ve suggested though, so like I said just opinion

Comfortable so far, especially when looking at some of the other groups which are much closer.

Nations are certainly becoming much tougher to beat and actually having a go - i think the Euro format has encouraged this.

Spain and Holland both in a battle to get top spot in their respective groups

I'd favour the minnows playing some kind of pre-qualifying tournament amongst themselves and, ultimately, cutting down the number of meaningless qualifying matches.
I don't really see what Andorra and Lichtenstein get out of being beaten heavily so often. I'd have more of a sense of pride as a follower of those teams if we won a few games and earned a spot in main qualifying.
Africa and Asia do this already: not all nations go into the final qualifying groups.
