Wycombe Chairman on BBC Radio Derby - Everyone needs to listen

Yanks cannot say Middlesbrough, I have a T. shirt saying so .

If they go to the wall, we know who will be to blame in other teams eyes. If Derby fans cannot see their failing other fans won't either.

Personally, I don’t want us playing any part in seeing another club go to the wall.
I feel the same in some respect, but I also don't want other clubs to think they can do whatever they want ... lots of Derby fans are bringing out "BUT Aston Villa did it and Leeds did it"

(1) It’s a hilarious world where Mike Ashley is seen as your knight in shining armour

(2) Haven’t followed this Derby thing very closely, what’s the story with their stadium then? So Mel Morris personally owns it? And can’t “sell” it back to the club because that would make a mockery of the £80m quid valuation he put on it, is that right?

So what happens if they are taken over, the new Derby owners will have to lease the stadium from penniless Mel?

I don’t really understand it, might have got it all wrong.

He's very good - starts at around 18:27 - he's been a trial lawyer for 40 years and think's he would win in a court

Good post - it was a fascinating interview

Derby fans need to understand: the club is a business, not a charity. they watched morriss spunk millions and it was common knowledge that they were taking a punt on getting promoted and escaping FFP. They watched rooney get signed with his wages. they beat us to waghorn by offering him more money - direct competition that affected our squad. they beat us to the play-offs by one point - proven to be cheating. we scaled down our wages and spending to reflect the end of the parachute payments and lost some big names just so that we stayed within the rules.

it is mel morriss who they should aim their anger at, not gibbo or wycombe or, indeed, the EFL.

It was Mel Morris who thought he was cleverer than anybody else but we have somebody much, much, cleverer running our ship.

The deal includes purchasing the stadium at a reduced price according to reports I’ve read. I don’t think any price has been agreed yet though.

Interesting listen. Host was a bit of a nob, did well to keep his cool with him at several points. I think Wycombe have a much stronger claim than us as we are claiming for potential losses but they did suffer actual relegation AND it isn't a debate about results on the field but a clear act by MM to miss a deadline to submit accounts in order to delay a points deduction. EFL should have relegated Derby automatically then imo

Very interesting. Wycombe chairman sounds very intelligent bloke, who knows what he is about, and also what the administrators are about.

Boro Fans ought to be careful about not wanting to put DCFC in the sh1t.
As Steve Gibson says Derby cheated. Wycombe chairman effectively said exactly the same thing.
So its not Boro and Wycombe that are killing DCFC; its their owner, who as the Wycombe chairman cleverly elicited in the interview is giving up nothing despite wanting us and Wycombe to give up our claim.

Thought Mark Drury put Boro case well as well.

No one has mentioned it, but there's a live link up between Radio Derby and Radio Tees at 7 in the morning to discuss this.

For those in Teesside it is probably on the wireless. For the rest of us, look for Radio Tees or Derby on BBC Sounds (use VPN if outside UK).

Think I'll listen to the Derby stream for giggles

Derby don't have a pot to **** in, never mind £80m to buy the stadium back

Do you think we’ll sing Stevie Gibson’s name when we play Derby? I think we might.
I don’t think anybody wants a club to go to the wall. They have decent fans and they’ll be gutted. The thing is, they broke the rules, they cheated, and they are still not playing by the rule book. They’re not selling players, they’re not paying their debts and if they stay up they won’t have had sufficient punishment for their wrongs.

Morris is to blame and the weak EFL who should have sorted things a season before although I did read that they couldn’t sort it then as derby were dragging their feet. Sound familiar?

You‘d think the BBC Derby presenter would be a bit more impartial and have a greater understanding of the causes of their predicament. However, he just came across as many of their fans do by being in denial.

Why can't the EFL order the sale of high value Derby players to be replaced by free transfers. That money for transfers to go into a pot controlled by the football league for Wycombe and Boro.

Surely they have 6 or 7 quality players who could raise a total of £20m plus Derby are owed £6m in Covid payments according to the BBC reporter.

Boro have said their claim is not near £40m and it sounds like the Wycombe owner would take £6m. A £26m pot would likely clear both clubs claims.

If Mel Morris handed the stadium back for its true worth say £30m.

A bidder would likely come in to pay the non footballing debt in return of ownership of the Club which is a top half Championship/Lower Premier League club. - £40m? (plus £30m for stadium.)

I'm listening to this again.

I'd never heard that interview with Rick Parry before and I'm pleasantly surprised that he seems to come out on our side.

It almost sounded like an apology, ie, to paraphrase, 'we should have listened to the Boro earlier'

I love my club. I'm embarrassed I ever doubted Sir Steve went he went a bit tory.

He's a man of the people whether he wants the title or not.

Vive la PRT!

Possibly clubs have to submit financial accounts on the last day of the normal season and go through a financial VAR before their final place is confirmed.
