Yesterday was a huge game

I didn’t post at the time for fear of jinxing us but I honestly thought yesterday was a must win (of mist not lose) game for our promotion play off hopes. Given no one else around us was playing so to lose yesterday would have added to the negativity and it would have opened the door on the chasing pack all with games in hand.

So it wasnt just a fantastic win it was I think key to to our season to beat and over take the third spot is a huge calling card for the rest of the league I think we could look back at yesterday and see a poss turning point in the league.

We needed a good solid win to shake off last week’s disappointment kill of any doubts that were building and set us up for some tougher games ahead.

I had a funny feeling we'd win because of just how bad our record against them had been.

No wins in our previous 10 matches, we were due one.

Had a similar feeling from the other direction against Sunderland, they were due a win against us.

Its so tight at the top I think the final positions will be decided by the head to heads, given there's so many teams capable of finishing in the top 6.

It's anyone's for the taking, but WBA & Norwich seem to be hitting form at the right time under new managers and I would see them as the most likely challengers to us, but after that I'm not sure.

Not Just the win, but the manner of the win, the performance was night and day to last week.
Lets hope that the coaching staff have identified the reasons for the Sunderland performance and are instructing / coaching that play which we saw yesterday. Higher line, more intensity, aggression and driving forward not backwards/ sideward. opens play up so much more More please sir !

The championship is such a difficult and competitive league, every game now will be must win and the key is to take it one game at a time but to put a set back behind us quick is very important and we have done that twice now and yesterday was a massive confidence boost for all becaise other than the chance they had first half we totally out played and outclassed watford and it could and should of been 4/5.

The team is really pulling together and the recruitmen is doing there part with Barlaser and Archer who both look like they will be excellent additions to the squad.

Playing the way we are obviously bring optimizim and expectation but lets keeps grounded and understand there will be bad days like last week, we where earlier in the season looking like we we sleep walking towards relegation, this swuad and team has the belief and ability to compete and beat any team in this division on its day and its going to be a very emotional run to the end of the season.

Last week and this week shows how football is a funny old game but carrick doesnt panic and takes it one game at a time and is keeping everyone grounded.

Make no mistake how pivotal the Archer signing has been, the missing link, that bit of pace up front, absolutely great bit of business that.

It was massive, for all sorts of reasons and I feared the worst going into it, a big result no doubt about that.

We've been brilliant since Carrick took over and yesterday was an excellent performance against a top side (with some injury issues).

We can't really expect to catch Sheffield Utd though, can we?

What is their form telling us, coupled with the point gap? I can't see it. Would love it.

I would say we should always believe, just take it one game at a time and the table wont lie come the end of the season

I love how our forward line go for the throat as well as even at 2/0 up we were still banging on the door with chance after chance. Mcgree unlucky with his knees effort.

Carrick seems to have a calmness about him that I haven’t seen in a Boro manager for a long time. Players seem to enjoy it too. Yesterday was a massive result, to bounce back after our first big set back under Carrick and play in such a positive style. I’ve been a big critic of McNair, but he was outstanding yesterday, I think the shirt is now his to lose. Think automatic is out of the question……but win at the Lane in two and half weeks and who knows?😉

An average of 2 points per game for the remaining games would give us 79 points. Its highly unlikely that would be enough for a top 2 spot, but guarantee a play off place.

After defeat in the previous game it was imperative to win at home. A big three points to keep some momentum.
