Yet more….

I don’t know many people who are overtly racist so whilst they are your friends you will probably never know.
I've met hundreds, the armed forces is littered with them, and construction is even worse "on the ground", totally different in the office though.

I know my remain friends aren't as my friend groups are mixes of race, ethnicity, sexuality and there's zero prejudice been shown to anyone, ever on those grounds. We all stick up for the rights of those who face that crap regularly, I wouldn't expect a racist to do that.

One thing I have realised is that racists only seem to like to hang around other racists, and you don't hear the slurs unless in settings where they believe the expected racism level is high, it's like safety in numbers for them. Anti-Racism groups/ people tend to stick together also in social settings.

I would certainly like to see more controls of our borders, and I am certainly NOT a racist. What concerns me greatly, is the amount of refugees, illegal immigrants etc who are entering this country with no, or very limited checks. Whilst the vast majority are only seeking a better life, and they do have my sympathy, there will be ISIS terrorists etc amongst them, slipping in un noticed from the former war zones of Syria etc. Does that not concern you?

What are you suggesting that we do, hand them a questionnaire upon arrival with....

Are you entering the UK to commit terrorist activities YES/NO

They tried that in USA and it didn't work.

We're an island, we have a sea around us, which is at least 20 miles wide and 10 degrees temperature. We could control it as well as we wanted to before, we didn't need to leave the EU to do that.

The other options are a tunnel, a secure as you want to make it, and ports and airports, all pretty secure, but we could make them more secure before we left the EU.

Do you think refugees and illegal immigrants are more susceptible to being terrorists? What do you think the percentage is? 1 in 100,000?
Refugees come from wars we've started, or when we've tried to police the world, for the USA (which has a massive domestic terrorism and racism problem).
Illegal immigrants were illegal before, they will be illegal again, leaving the EU does not change this much.

What about domestic terrorists and racists, among our good old white folk? What do you think the percentage of those is? 1 in 10?

We're destroying our economy for a smaller problem, and ignoring a bigger problem that we've created ourselves.

This time last year, almost to the day, Khairi Saadallah, a Libyan refugee, brutally murdered 3 men who were enjoying the sunshine in a Reading park. Ask the families of these 3 men if they would like to see more checks and controls

What further checks and controls would have prevented him coming into the country? His behaviour when in the UK started the red flags that should've been acted upon.

Since when was Libya in the EU? Were still taking in refugees from non-EU countries, and rightly so.

To me £35 billion is a benefit , but hey ho.

One man's potato is another man's potato.

And this sums the idiocy of Brexit up.

As for the other discussion running on racism, I think Will Self summed it up best when he said that not every Brexit voter is a racist but every racist is a Brexit voter.

Every poll, every bit of data points to immigration as the single biggest reason that people voted to leave. There was by any reading of the data a massive element of racism in the vote.

Very sad for their families, everyone will agree on that.
Saadallah was a known problem to MI5 and the Tory government, so maybe pin some blame on those too? I wonder how many civilians we killed in 2011, when we launched over 100 cruise missiles at Libya (also Tory government)?

Not sure how leaving the EU helps with this either, other than weakening our security through not co-operating with foreign agencies/ Interpol etc.

Hardly just about not using your mobile on holiday. Plenty need to work whilst they are away and surely something like this makes it much more difficult, when it really didn’t need to be that way
To be honest though how many people who work abroad use a mobile data connection and not a WiFi connection? Surely a WiFi connection is more stable than a mobile data one?

🤷

Not in the slightest. In fact you are at more risk of getting killed by cattle or struck by lightening than you are from ISIS in the UK
Does that concern you?

Shall we shut up shop to all refugees? All of them?

The truth is we could have reduced immigration by 80% in our existing arrangement with the EU, we did not have to leave. It was pure propaganda

Now we have left and failed to control our own borders with regard to Covid

Can you explain how that relates to EU membership ? The scenario you talk of for checks etc was always available to us, we just didn’t take up on it. Non EU immigration will continue to rise to fill positions previously occupied by EU workers, the irony for those who voted Brexit on the basis of fewer Muslim immigrants is that there will be more as cheaper labour will be imported from African and Asian markets.

Brexit was never really about EU membership, it’s benefits or otherwise, but purely a power grab and means to split and destabilise the traditional political boundaries in the U.K.

Exactly this.

Firstly, we had existing powers in relation to EU immigration that we chose not to enforce. The reason we chose not to enforce it is because the costs were disproportionate to the problem. In other words it wasn’t a problem.

Secondly, no amount of Brexit will have an impact on illegal immigrants. By their very nature!

Thirdly, all that will happen is that EU immigration will reduce and non-EU immigration will fill the gap. Why? Because there’s a gap!

Finally, refugees. It is absolutely right as a wealthy forward thinking society that we help these people yet we take in fewer refugees than almost every other European country.
