York City friendly, no away fans allowed.

Seems very daft, especially when it's on the 27th of July and most restrictions are expected to be lifted by then.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's just York Council not wanting the chew of away fans and using it as an excuse.

Yea agree strange when you see the attendances at the euros & York opening for tourism wjth the date passed, fingers crossed

I thought it was odd too. I expected all fans to be ‘barred’ from attending, but was even more surprised when I clicked on the article and read that its just away fans that aren’t allowed.

Strange decision given the date of the match.

That is precisely why I am trying to ensure there is a fan on our decision making Safety Advisory Group at the Riverside - so we have a say in any covid capacity and restrictions at home. They make decisions locally

The reputation of people from Teesside amongst those who live in York isn’t great at all, due to the hoards of day trippers on the train pre-covid. Therefore I imagine that has something to do with the decision as alluded to above.

Its because of the grounds safety certificate, nothing to do with covid. Surely play Pools instead, better test and would allow 3/4K boro fans to watch

It will definitely play a part, but they're also banning fans from Newcastle and Sunderland.

Apparently it may also have something to do with their stadium needing to pass a safety check before the season starts.

the last train back used to be horrendous. Should of put huge fines in place for anti social behaviour on trains.

York recident here. I reckon this is in part down to York having got down to 0 cases of COVID pre-Xmas and then when restrictions ended and the tourists came we ended up in a terrible state. The place is busy now so I can see why the council wants to manage things.

The place is riddled with it again thanks to the Uni - 252 cases there!!

Last train back from anywhere was always horrendous. I used to get the last train back from the Jazz Club and you could guarantee that the communication cord would be pulled someplace not far out of Redcar.
