You know what really grates about this coronation stuff

Is the fact the cost of it, and who is going to pay for it, is not even up for discussion. Much like when Queen Elizabeth died, there has been a concerted effort to make sure we seamlessly move things along to the next person, her son, instead of having a proper conversation about the role of the Monarchy - and whether it even has one - in the modern day.

It just blows my mind that we, the public, have no choice or say about whether it’s right that we are paying for a man with a personal fortune of around £1.8bn to be ferried around London while the nation endures relentless strikes, soaring inflation, an NHS crisis, unprecedented food bank usage, people unable to pay their bills, old people dying of the cold and dying hungry, services across the board cut down to the bone, children going without warm food…

The next king inherited around £500m worth of castles, jewels, art, cash and land from his mother. All of it tax free. And yet another £100m is being drained out of the public finances to give him a party.

It’s just so unpalatable. And yet we cannot have a debate about it, instead being shut down and shouted over and labelled as ‘unpatriotic’ by the politicians and their political news media. I sometimes struggle to hide my anger on political threads with the current state of things and this is right up there. I absolutely hate that my taxes go on sh*t like this when old people are freezing and kids are missing meals. It’s just wrong.

I really don't get this argument of complaining about how much these things cost - are you footing the bill yourself like??

I can imagine there are things that our tax contributions go towards that are a lot more damning and pointless than the coronation of our new King.

Yes. It is preposterous that people don't care but it's even more of a problem that nobody that has the power to do anything about it dare not bring it up. Every time we want to spend money on things that will actually improve society there is a big debate about how we afford it but anything to do with spending vast sums for Royal weddings, funerals, coronations or paying paedo's lawyer fees are just auto-approved without any mention of the cost. We make any other public servant declare expenses but the Royal's get an unlimited budget.

There's absolutely zero scrutiny of the finances of the royals. The Guardian have run some reports but there on a bit of a lone crusade.

Why do you hate our country so much? It'll be a lovely day out for a lot of people, especially those brave hardy souls camped out on the street around London - some of them have been camping out in the street, waiting for this moment for years.

We can worry about freezing pensioners and starving kids when the next election comes around, and we can pretend we care about them again. In the meantime we've got flags to wave, bunting to hang and a allegiance to pledge.

When we're told "there's no magic money tree" to feed starving children over school holidays, then who wouldn't be angry that they can find the money to spend on a party for a billionaire who doesn't actually pay taxes himself ?

The fact that tax payers money is wasted in so many other ways is complete whataboutery.

Maybe I should just concentrate on working out where to put my commemorative Daily Mail wall poster and crack on with shagging turnips instead. It would be much easier.

That's the spirit old chap, I've got a couple of King Charles III commemorative masks you can have, and some spare bunting for you to hang over the fire you can't afford to switch on because of the cost of gas !

The Blitz spirit, that's what we love to see.

they are so intertwined with the establishment it would be near impossible to get rid of them. you are talking getting rid of practically all of the aristocracy as well. would be incredible undertaking that the country has not got the majority support or resource to undertake.

nothing you can do about having a conversation about it either it unless the top 10 in the ascension line snuffed it in 1 go then there might be some high level talks in government about what to do

guy fawkes was the chance we had and he blew it. or didn't blow it..... :poop: :poop:

Im sure I heard the other day that something like 9000 police will be on duty that day. Just hope there is no crime in other parts of London.

Edit: just checked, 11500

Hear hear, I'm frantically tugging my forlock on the Mall as I type.

Where else do these peasants think the money should be spent? On feeding starving kids or stopping OAPs freezing to death or something????

The ones with big widescreen TV's and mobile phones, no chance.
Exactly, I'll tell you this for free, widescreen TVs didn't win us the war! I've no idea what did as I wasn't there but it wasn't these woke libtards!

Anyway, I've nearly finished my forelock tug, I've got a special commemorative picture from the daily mail that's about to send me over the edge!

GSTK!!!

Yes. As a taxpayer.

Who else do you think is paying?

H'way fella, you know what I meant. It is as if viv's having to write the £100m cheque himself. I am far from a Royalist and will be too busy losing golf balls to become embroiled in watching the procession on Saturday but I certainly don't blow hot air at where else this money could be spent. It costs what it costs, especially under this current government regime. People argue that it must be spent elsewhere like the Tories are going to turn around and go "yeah you're right!".

As for the amount of Police and security, that is just the times we live in unfortunately - it does make me laugh when people say "hope there is no crime elsewhere in London!!" - as if the MET just leave all other Boroughs desolate of officers. I would imagine this week very few, if any British Police officer's will have been given leave or authorised absence.

At least the homeless in London will have company for the weekend. There is always a positive if you look hard enough.
