Young Hackney

I thought Hackney was great, constantly showing for the ball and driving forward positively a lot of the time. Him and Howson were a solid partnership together in midfield.

Whilst Fry got his head on everything, the most aggressive I've seen him for some time.

I think the Gazette were at a different game to me though judging by the player ratings. Hackney in average territory.....

Whoever did those Gazette ratings should be sacked on the spot. Hackney completed 93.4% of 91 passes today, both of which were the best numbers of any player on the pitch.

He also made 3 tackles and an interception and no player on our team beat those stats either.

Hackney had an extremely impressive match. His partnership with Howson today was at the heart of everything good we did.

Makes you wonder about some of the other highly rated lads that never got a chance and were shipped out then faded away.
Woods is Swansea's first choice CB.. should've been here with us

Haydn Hackney - what a couple of weeks: scores a brillaint goal at Wigan, gets the call-up for the Scotland U21s and plays like hes been in the team for months: fits like a hand in glove - showing strength and composure - and an eye for where the ball goes next.
Brilliant.
Well done (y)

Lad owes Leo a big thanks for believing in him. No guarantee MC would have thrown him in if he hadn't already been blooded.

I think since he has broke into the team he has got steadily better with each match. If he continues this form and continues to improve we have a really good player on our hands. He has all the attributes and I can't see an obvious weakness in his game. He's also the only midfielder we have got with a bit of pace that can beat a man and take the ball forward.

Previously I’ve posted that it his performances were encouraging but that he had some fairly noticeable gaps in his game.

Fair play today, I thought he bridged those gaps and looked every part a quality player.

Have to admit, I thought Leo was trying to make a point when he first put him in the team and some of the comments on the forums in his first couple of matches weren’t exactly glowing. But I think he’s been absolutely brilliant - always looks forward, has pace and energy and very rarely loses the ball or plays as safe backwards pass.

Think it should also be a real boost to the academy and fringe players how there is a route into the first team. Looking forward to seeing if the likes of Hoppe and Boyd-Munce get much game time this season.

Hackney has been a breath of fresh air. Composed, confident and capable of retaining the ball, beating a man and passing to a team-mate. My man of the match today. He's having the same sort of impact that Jones had when he first broke through. Both of these players have the capacity to improve further and need to demonstrate consistency. It's early days for Hackney but the potential is definitely there. Jones needs to simplify his game in my opinion. Hackney does the simple things well.
