Zack Steffen on a permanent (Twitter rumour)

Man City paid 7m for him, but that was three years ago. Transfermrkt has him at 4m which sounds about right. Maybe 3m with 1m promotion bonus, wages aren't going to be cheap though, 20k maybe?
I can’t see a fee of less than 8-10 million which would still be absolutely worth it. He could easily be our number one for 8 years regardless of league. It’s clear to see how much of a difference a good keeper makes, probably more than any other position on the pitch

I would say this would be the best bit of business we have done in years if he signed, the lad is top quality and will only get better the more he plays

20k, I assume you're talking per day ?

There's no way he'll be on 20k a week at City.
Of course not, but it'll be the top end of what we will offer. The key thing is that I don't think he will get a prem offer with prem wages right now. Might get a golden handshake from City to walk away from his contract, depending on how that is delivered it might not hit their FFP which is important for them

20k, promotion bonus, cleasheet bonus and auto pay rise to 50k in prem.

I think he'll be on a decent wedge at city.. most players aren't going to get man city wages tbh

Similar deal to Darren Randolph I would have thought, 4.5m to city and then 30k+ a week with a mega uplift with promotion (like double)

i seen a website that lists all players wages somewhere that had him on 45k a week. Not sure how accurate that would be.

I presume at his age he knows he needs to play regularly and that isn't going to happen at city. I cant see city valuing him that highly and with that wage just probably happy to get him off the wages.

As above 4 million would seem about right to me. Cant see us blowing more on a keeper. I imagine alot of signings will be brought in on modest wages with big promotion bonuses.

He’s on 65k per week but would join us for 44k if we said you’ll get 62k when we go up or 47k if we go up and come back down, and 55k if we win a cup and agree to write off your 700k loyalty for signing but if you do do that then we’ll go to 61k, matching the 80, 41, 23 or 57k he’s on at City, unless he isn’t, which he probably is. Plus pension contributions. I pretty much know this for a fact, going off rumours online.

I'd be happy with him on a permanent, but I don't think we could afford to spend a sizeable chunk on a goalkeeper.

He signed a new contract with City before joining us, and he'll be on a good wage.

pretty much summing up this thread VAN!

Not sure on what planet someone would need to be living to think that if they leave Man City to move to the Championship they wouldn't need to take a huge pay cut.

If he's prepared to come permanently, he has to be prepared for the financial implications of such a move as well, surely?

I would love this to be true but I just don't see how the numbers works. 2.5 years left on an undoubtedly big contract at city. Even if we could pay the fee, it would require Steffen to take a huge pay cut or city to massively subsides his wages/pay his contract up, something i cant imagine they would do as it would probably be more financially beneficial for them to loan him out each year

We are a championship club. Can’t see us paying many players more than £20k a week tops and most a lot less if we are to be in any way sustainable.

Unless City accept a very low fee, or he is on low wages (unlikely based on the posts above), then can’t see this happening or wouldn’t think it is feasible.

Aye. Basically much of whats wrong with football right there.

A backup Premier League goalie should not be out of reach financially for a championship side. It's probably not even close to being affordable for us.

Youth team players on (allegedly) £40k a week too. Or higher in some cases.

Madness.

Im starting to warm to him, but good business, only time will tell

We have scratched around for a good No1 for a few years now it so makes sense having a good, reliable No1

Whether the figures match up, or hes happy to drop down to the championship for a couple of seasons, or more, who knows
