Zack Steffen

My take on Steffen was summed up by the way we started to play after weathering the early Coventry onslaught.
His ability to play football and not just launch it rendered the Coventry press redundant several times. He started off all the moves that played through their press and got us into some great situations.
As for his stats, being the high scoring, high risk side that we are then it's no wonder that we concede a few. With that in mind his stats don't tell anywhere near the full story.
He'd be on my list of targets for next season as he is as much a part of how we play as anyone in the squad.

👏

ever conceded on the keeper. Some lads I’ve spoke to reckon he’s crap and we can do better. Some of them thought the same about Mark Schwarzer too, which is more a reflection on them than the keepers.
I still know people that think schwartzer was weak on crosses despite him for several years he was here having the best catching % and number of catches in the prem league.

I'm sick of hearing people shouting for us to 'get rid' instead of 'all this faffing about at the back', it's the way we play and its deliberate based on the managers instructions and overall approach.

It's great to watch in the main, but it's a fact that occasionally it doesn't work.

The reason we concede so many is because we commit players up field. Ideally we would have better quality in CDM and CB to delay the counter but it’ll take a summer transfer period for that to happen. A proper quality CDM is probably the biggest game changer for us. Get a mini-Boateng and we would walk this league

These are the same people who quickly forget Steffens part in starting attacks.

All they remember is the end chance/goal and not how the pattern of play was created. It’s a real lack of understanding

Nakamba would be great for us, as he has been for Luton

Risk and reward. How many goals has it created? Directly, several. Indirectly, many more. How many has it cost? I may have missed some, as I tend to wipe goals conceded from memroy, but the only one I can think of is cardiff away, and even then Mcnair was equally culpable.

But having players of that nature generally means they aren't as effective with the ball, especially in Carricks preferred style of play, so we would lose an element of our attacking play.
True, he looks decent enough on the ball from what I’ve seen of him though. We would have to find an atheltetic player who can play as well as win the ball back and setruct if we get promoted

Exactly that, high risk high reward, but I'd much rather see this than the ball launched upfield for us to compete for possession, like we did under Warnock.

Playing that way is reliant on the keeper probably more than any other player, which is why Man City signed Ederson - in fact he looks very similar to Steffen in the way he plays, almost too laid back at times.

Steffen will have plenty of suitors if he does leave City on a permanent.

The opposition gave up on targeting him as a weak link a while back, which demonstrates just how much he's improved with successive games.

is he worth 40k a week? Value for money isn’t there considering that would be a pay cut of half of his current wage

Well he divides opinion so that tells you something,

Certain posters on here have refused to change their opinion on him regardless of his performances on the pitch.

The guy who's probably actually Liam Roberts himself being the noticeable one.

Steffen was excellent again on Monday.

I think it would be a real coup if we were able to sign him. The only negative is the person I sit next to seems to be in a permanent state of anxiety when Steffan is looking to distribute the ball and keeps making weird noises or jumps in his chair like a turettes sufferer. If we get him I will be chuffed but will have to move seats probably

Ridiculous comment. Clearly don’t go to games
There is no need to be a condescending d*ck about it. You don’t agree with my comment, that’s the point iof a message board to debate it. Seek to understand rather than ridicule, unless someone says archer is worth 10-12 million

Even if we had a keeper who was worse at distribution than Steffan I still think we would dominate games with the tactics we employ and the patterns of play we have

That’s the problem, it’s a clear lack of understanding. Fairly obvious that he wins us points from how helps starts attacks and barely at fault for any goals conceded.

I’d politely disagree, he helps starts attack but like I said the tactics we play we’d still be winning in the region of where we would be

As injuries have shown us, it’s the outfield players who are more important to carricks tactics working
