Zahawi sacked

Not sure he`s grown a pair, more likely to have had his hand forced by the evidence stacking up against what I hope will be a convicted tax avoider
Exactly that, he looks weaker in my opinion and more tarnished.

He had a chance to show decisive strong leadership and chose to defend Zahawi's actions. Which even if not 100% illegal were clearly morally abhorrent, especially at a time of record tax payer burden and high inflation leading to a cost of living crisis for working families.

Everyone in politics knew he was toast for at least a week, so to drag it out this long when the evidence was sufficient to do this weeks ago, shows yet again what a weak and poor political practitioner Sunak is.
Maybe Sunak was scared of what beans Zahawi has to spilll..I’m just speculating here, but maybe it will shine an unwelcome light on Sunak‘s family tax affairs or something?

The only question for Tory MPs now should be "have you ever had an HMRC penalty?". I guarantee Zahawi isn't a one-off.

I'm not defending Sunak btw.

I'm genuinely shocked he's actually done it - the information against Zawahi put forward from Dan Niedle was concise, factual and overwhelming.......but for 8 days Sunak backed him and certainly looked like he was hoping the big carpet would be rolled out.

Does this not bring Sunaks position into question?

Weaker, stronger ......he's now like Captain Smith of the Titanic looking at the iceberg and telling himself it'll be alright when we get to port.

Toast.

That can't be new evidence that has just rocked up over breakfast on a Sunday you would think.

It isn't, but he denied it (lied) which means it's taken the story leaking out and his tax records being divulged to an investigation before that lie has been fully trashed.

Now the question will be what Sunak was told or knew before appointing him.

Either way the Tory turd blender keeps on spinning.

Basically he’s not liz truss that’s the only thing that put him in no 10 scary really how low the bar is.

According to the experts in HMRC taxation, the type and level of his fine would suggest it was beyond simply being an "error", but even that aside the fact that he didn't disclose it, when he was appointed as the minister overseeing taxation policy and also the government department that is HMRC is staggeringly unethical in my view.

But the biggest scandal is the fact that is taken so long for him to be sacked and speaks to how little power the PM actually has in his own party.
