9.5 in totalYep i am about to join the statins club too. I went through the whole lifestyle analysis thing and they couldn't recommend any changes so statins it is.
What cholesterol levels are you at currently?
Thank you
high chol on its own should not be enough to put anyone on statins. you need to have other factors combined with high chol to be at increased risk of heart disease. the best way to prevent heart disease is to keep the weight down and keep active with a healthy balanced diet. magnesium, potassium zinc calcium etc. take mineral supplements. loads of people are nutrient deficient and that can cause you more health issues than heart disease. if they took a non fasting blood test and tried to put you on statins based on that like they did to me. tell them no. i was way over weight and to inactive. 4 months later eating much healthier and more active. i've lost 30 odd pounds. chole levels have dropped without statins, but if they put you on statins, they would say great statins are working, keep on them to keep level down. when reality is your own life style change fixed it. worst thing anyone can do is not look after themselves and just rely on NHS treating symptoms with pills. its not fixing anything long term. just masking symptoms.Yep i am about to join the statins club too. Was at 8.0 but now down to 5'sA q for those taking statins , what was your overall cardiovascular risk % score, when you were first prescribed them?
Wow, I thought they only started thinking about statins when you hit the 10% mark! Was at 8.0 but now down to 5's
Taking 20mg statin and a complete rethink on diet which I think is major factor.
Doctor told me some people are just prone to high levels no matter what, but pills will help in my case combined with better diet.
I'm generally active but make sure to get out every day even when it's bad weather. ( I have an imaginary dog that needs walking! )
Waking the dog to the match this afternoon (which is why I haven't got a real one )
Think they want to get you down to a reasonable level before it's too late and other problems occur. Prevention is better than cure etc.Wow, I thought they only started thinking about statins when you hit the 10% mark!
