EFL announces new broadcasting deal with Sky

Until I see what that means translated down to each club I'm not much the wiser although obv seems more yeah.

Old deal was simple. Champ club got 1 off payment per year ( all clubs , including relegated clubs on parachutes ) of about 4.5m. Then every home game selected for TV was 100K or 120K if a Sunday. away match selected was 10k. Then if not in receipt of parachute , also got a PL solidarity payment of about 2.3m . So a featured good champ club could get about 8m from TV income per season. So , what now ?

Article 48 to remain

The new deal allows for ‘Article 48’, the blocked broadcast period between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on Saturday afternoons to remain, meaning that main broadcast fixtures will be scheduled for outside of this time. Final fixture slots will be confirmed at a later date.

So much for that then

Does Anyone get ORDER 66, vibes whenever you hear this.

If we go up I imagine most of our home games will be 3pm. We will be on TV the minimum required at least first half of the season.

Hopefully we'll be in the Prem and none of that will apply, but this bit sounds good for fans:

- The defined notice periods will enable clubs and fans to plan further in advance and this will include the placement of all live matches selected for broadcast for the period to FA Cup 3rd Round before the start of the season.

Can't ask for much more notice than that! Mentions an extension in notice periods of all live TV games too.

Am I missing something ? All opening weekend games to be shown. But also no games to be broadcast on the Sat traditional window. So does that mean no opening game on the Sat in any league will be scheduled for 3.00pm ? Whereas normally there would be 7 or 8 fro the championship.

Would imagine they'll do what they do with the final day - either a day change or 12.30pm kick offs.

Exactly this. What a load of crap. It’s nearly half the teams a week not kicking off at 3 on a Saturday. So nearly every other week our gane will be moved.

I don’t want to go to a game at noon on Sunday.

It's almost exactly the same as it is right now in the Championship?

There's usually a Friday night match, Saturday early kick off, the 3pm matches, a late kick off, an early Sunday match and a Monday night match.

That's not every week of the season currently, but it's nothing new.

Is it? I don’t think it’s that every week.

Absolute game changer for those of us who have to travel for home games. I'd save a small fortune if I could book everything in advance, as well as being able to arrange work to get the time off

I think this could be a good indication that Sky expects to lose another chunk of its Premier League coverage though.

It was what happened on the weekend that's just been.
Yes, but that’s the end of season, cherry picking meaningful games.

In October when there’s league cup games, it’s rubbish.

You build your week around Saturday 3 o’clock. My wife’s a nurse so it’s useful to book childcare in advance. You do the kid’s activities on Saturday morning. Even with advanced notice, it’s a ball ache to have games moved. Two fingers to travelling fans.

And what do they need the extra money for? Would kids stop wanting to be footballers if they had a wage cap of £5k a week in the Championship? Would you get less enjoyment watching the boro if the players were paid less?

100% this. They are viewing TNT Sports in their wing mirrors and it looks like the Death Star. If the Death Star was just a car.

I do get some of the arguments about kick off times but why are Thursday nights so sacred? I can’t see what’s different about them to Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday nights that we’ve been used to for years.

I’ve bought three season tickets. Granted I wasn’t 100% sure what division we’d be in. But this nonsense wasn’t on the table then. With the extra revenue received from Sky for the moved games. How about season card holders are given a 10% refund per moved game

For me its more the Friday, Sunday and Monday games.

If the midweek games are thurs that means we won't play the Saturday. Just spoils the weekend for me not being a sat 3pm. I understand we need midweek games.

It doesn't take effect until 2024/25, so it won't impact any of your three season tickets.
