France back in lockdown

Cannot see it whatsoever.

By the time we've reopened fully, the majority of vulnerable people will have been vaccinated and most of them will have had both doses.

The only way we'll end up in a fourth lockdown will be if vaccines prove less effective than reported or there's a new mutation.
exactly this

As an addition to my earlier post, I remember thinking during the first lockdown that the pandemic might actually see us emerge with a more holistic approach to our existence and that we'd be more mindful of our effects on others and the environment. What has become apparent though is that we won't change enough to make a discernable difference and that saddens me.
We've seen in the US and now in Europe that certain politicians are incapable of understanding that they are elected to serve the people and not themselves.
If we don't arrest our progress down the path we are on then I worry that the next pandemic we face could be even worse. Not only are we encroaching more and more into animal habitats in the search of profit, which will expose us to more and possibly deadlier pathogens, but our leaders seem less than statesmen and more like egomaniacs interested only in themselves.

That is just about where we stand, as a human race. It’s so sad that we are all aware of the outcomes if we plunder the planet further, yet the majority of businesses, politicians and populace simply don’t give a stuff about anyone but themselves.
I just hope the younger generations have the appetite for the immense struggle they have ahead of themselves to reverse our relentless path toward self-destruction

AZ has been a victim of its own success really. They are not a traditional vaccine producer and this is their first rodeo so to speak. The fact that they've produced a safe and effective vaccine and are offering it as a non-profit should more than outweigh any 'promises' of delivery that they may have missed. From what I've read, it was all on a best effort basis so they should be allowed some slack if they miss production targets.
As for the alleged issues, name me any drug that doesn't have potentially deadly side effects. Anyone who has seen medical ads on US TV will know how they all end with a litany of warnings about possible side effects. I honestly think AZ has become an easy political football for some to kick about and for those doing so I'd suggest their efforts might be better served helping their citizens get vaccinated rather than preventing them.
If Europe don't want it for political reasons then I'm sure it'll help the Covax effort in the rest of the world.
Sorry. I believe AZ screwed the EU with false promises on deliveries. Probably through naivety.

Including reference to deliveries from UK sites to the EU in contracts.

The EU has received no vaccines in final delivery from the UK. The UK has had more than 20M vaccines in final delivery from Europe. Some of which have been AZ.

You can understand why the EU is putting the squeeze on AZ about deliveries.

The rest of what has happened is down to some individual governments within and outside the EU being spooked by the stats about blood clots.

AZ vaccine is being done at cost. Who would benefit from removing that vaccination from use and causing a shortage that would result in an opportunity to fill with another vaccine?

Pfizer and their US government puppets will be doing it. The corporations must not be prevented from making their profits by some damned British-Swedish socialists.
I did think that the other day and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s been some sort of funded disinformation campaign

Although we have been world leaders administrating the vaccine surprised to see we lag behind most of western Europe in fully vaccinated numbers

No, we don't.

France have 2.7m people fully vaccinated as of the last few days, Germany had less than 3m in the last figures I could get from the 17th of March, England have 4.1m fully vaccinated in recent figures.

We're orders of magnitude ahead of them in first doses on top of that.

If things continue as is, we'll be orders of magnitude ahead of them on second doses by the end of the April too.

That is because the focus has been to give first injections in the UK. Lot of people think this was the right call. It looks like that may be true.

Other countries have taken a more risk averse approach. They decided to go for a shorter period of time between first and second injections.

It gets even more complicated when you take into account different government's management of risk associated with future delays to vaccine deliveries. For use for second vaccinations.

Yeah, certainly not knocking our vaccination was just surprised at the fully vaccinated figures

We are beyond the 3 month point since vaccines were shifted from 2 weeks to 3 months. second doses are well underway now and fully vaccinated numbers will shoot up in the UK now.

In the UK today was the first time 2nd doses outnumbered 1st doses.

Expect those 'fully vaccinated' numbers to increase rapidly during April.

Lockdowns in the UK after people have been vaccinated?

Yeah that's gonna be a hard sell to the public. 🤣

There is going to be a catch up on 2nd doses in the coming weeks in the UK.

Across Europe there has been an inequality in sharing doses. The UK has adopted a "GREEDY" rather than a balanced approach.

However we will all only get the benefit when all (not just individual parts of the continent of Europe) are vaccinated.

The UK government is interested in short term points scoring. Due to trying to cover up previous failures.

Spooked you really think that I think it’s spite and basically a concerted effort to undermine if not destroy confidence in AZ.

look at today EMA says it safe yet again the but merkel comes out and slaughters it again based on nothing at all.

You have to understand that individual European and EU countries are making their own decisions. Germany is not leading or influencing countries about AZ at the moment.

This is a pretty strange world we live in. Individual countries in Europe and around the world are making their own decisions.

For all the spaffing that's going on about vaccines it's worth noting that France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Croatia, Romania, Sweden, Poland, Ireland, Greece, and Italy have all handled the pandemic better than the UK government when you look at per capita deaths. Our death rate attributable to Covid shames our government, being one the worst in the world.

No doubt someone will be along soon to tell me that we count differently to others. This is probably due to the Priti Patel book of mathematical equations being employed by UK government.

Having said that spending £126k of tax payers cash to get a shag is significantly better value than the billions wasted on world beating hide and seek (track and trace) program. Mind, I suppose the whole country got shagged with some of the contracts doled out to Tory cronies.

Very bitter. However it is pretty much on the button.

I think everyone is being blindsided in blaming Merkel for the negativity towards AZ. Yes she’s the one sticking the boot in, but she’s doing it on behalf of Pfizer and first and foremost the “German” BionTech!! .........Follow the money!! I said from the start that’s why BionTech raced to get efficacy results out first as the value of the company went from $1.2bn to $24bn........in a day!!
