Is it proper to put milk in your tea before you pour in the hot water?

It is scientifically proven that you put the milk in last, tea needs boiling water for the chemical reaction to work correctly. Also the water has to be oxygenated so always put more water in from the tap before boiling to add oxygen.

And on the subject of brexit.....

To be fair I'm a put the milk in last convert. Not sure if you're allowed to change your mind. I'm possibly the lowest of the low.

Growing up my mum always made it in a pot, then milk in the cup before pouring the brewed tea into the cup.

As I've got older and wiser I've come to realise it's far easier to regulate strength of your brew by putting the milk in last. I also can't be arsed making it in a pot. (Plus when you have it in one of those big cups in a cafe you get that cool swirling effect when you add the milk.)

Why does no-one acknowledge the role of teapots in these topics?
Exactly. If you want to make tea properly it needs to brew for a few minutes. When making tea in a cup with a tea bag, people tend to remove the bag early to prevent too strong a brew which means a shorter brewing time.
Also, milk shouldn't be anywhere near a cup of tea.

Yes I agree, Milk is not required in tea for a proper taste. Black tea is correct!

Your Mam was right.
Brew the tea in a pot using boiling water.
Milk first in the cup, then pour in properly brewed tea.
Timeless.

Proper mug.
Teabag in mug.
Add boiling water, it's got to be actually boiling away properly.
Leave for at least 5 minutes.
Squeeze teabag with the back of a spoon.
Add some milk.
Drink with the satisfaction that you've done it properly.
