The Christmas Eve beer and music thread!

Firstly, apologies for the delay in getting the thread up... been a hectic few days. Took the kids to the Lakes for a few days in the run up to Christmas and came back early this afternoon to a list of jobs a mile long. Sadly there was no snow just an awful lot of rain but good fun was had by all and now we're home, the kids have their Christmas Eve box and are about to get bathed and their new PJs on ready for Santa making an appearance later this evening (provided they've made the list of who's been good)!

A festive ale I quite like is the eternally miserable 'Bah Humbug' by the Wychwood brewery who also make the likes of Hobgoblin. Given that I'm generally a miserable old sod it's probably quite appropriate really.

To follow that off I will start us off with THE greatest Christmas song of all time which is of course Fairytale of New York... anyone who disagrees with that will be banned from this thread for a week and sent to the naughty step :D.

Other than that I'd just like to wish each and every one of you a very merry Christmas and that you have a great time with your nearest and dearest. If I may also just ask that when indulging in a festive drink or two we all raise a glass to the very sadly missed @bear66.

Merry Christmas one and all.

PS a special shout out to @FatCat who is this week going to indulge in some decent beer for a change - hope you enjoy it young fella 🍻

Good call - King Goblin is a lovely drink too of course. Enjoy your ales (y)

also got a Shelby IPA which the Mrs bought from B&M it’s been in the fridge for about 3 months can’t decide whether to try it, as it’s a gimmicky tv show one I’m expecting it to be a tad nasty.

B&M is usually a decent shout for finding some random drinks. Sure, they have a decent range they seem to stock all year around but each time I go they seem to have 2 or 3 random drinks you've either not seen for some time or that you've never heard of. If there's a new one I'll always pick one up and give it a try.

I've not had the Shelby IPA before so if you do try it let me know how it is.

As seen as it's Christmas the Leffe Noel has gone in the PD today.
Looking forward to a few of these tonight.

And @WeeGord we'll have to agree to disagree on the best Christmas song of all time

Whilst not my favourite Christmas song it's certinaly in my top 2 or 3 - always loved Chrissie Hynde's voice and it's a great song.

Great call with the Leffe too though I've not had the Noel before - any good? Interestingly Wetherspoons have now started selling Leffe on tap though not sure it'll be a big seller given that most of the folk in there seem to be Fosters and Carling drinkers!

She always buys me anything she sees that’s new in there that she hasn’t seen me drink as she knows I like to try new ones.

Ive opened it first, the initial couple of mouthfuls seemed to have a slightly harsh after taste but my tastebuds have adapted and I’m enjoying it now, it’s supposed to have hints of berries and citrus but I can’t make them out, it tastes more like an amber ale than an IPA.

Also known as Leffe Winter and very hard to get hold of at this time of year.

From the Beer Hawk website "Leffe Winter, available in Perfect Draft six-litre kegs, has a beautiful golden hue, a thick foaming head, and is replete with notes of clove, caramel and coffee. A mild smokiness balances out the beer making this 6.6% brew very drinkable and well-matched with seasonal dishes".

Yes I'd seen Leffe Blond is now on in Wetherspoons but like you I'm not sure how it will go down with the 4% lager drinkers :ROFLMAO:.

I hope Wetherspoons are at least using the proper glasses to serve it in.

Thornbridge brew the Shelby IPA, their Jaipur IPA is a fantastic beer.

Travelling up from london yesterday with a 5am start on a cold dark miserable morning this song came on - the next hour or so flew by with all the memories of Christmas’s of old came flooding back.

I went for a run this morning along the beach and I I passed through Saltburn so after the hard work I thought it only appropriate to try this little tipple brewed in saltburn.
All the best! This one’s for Bear 🐻
