I know it's not official about us signing Riley McGree, but we are getting quite a hammering on the Celtic forums ,wondering why he would go to that ******** ( in their words)

It must be quite difficult for their ego to to see the 27th best team in England outbid them, despite all their silverware and european football and 60k fans

Celtic are a big club with a massive fanbase.
However they play in a mickey mouse league and are complete also-rans when they get into Europe nowadays, so European football isn't a draw.
The Championship is a higher standard than the Scottish Premier league, we can pay more money by the looks of things and he has the chance of promotion to the Premier league with us. It really shouldn't be a massive shock that we can beat them to a signing of a player to anyone other than a Celtic fan.
I would expect us to beat them about 8 or 9 times out of 10 if we played them in the current climate.

What I find funny is all the articles when he was signing for Celtic were claiming it was a deal rising to £5m, but now they've missed out it's because we offered £5m and they were only offering £2m.
Both deals were rising to £5m.
We might well have offered better wages, but the overall package for Charlotte was the same.

Any ambitious footballer would choose the championship over the SPL because quite simply its a better route to the prem.
