Maybe most are smart now but when I got mine that wasn't the case. There were some just plug and charge / maybe set a charge schedule in the app or car. Re something like octopus intelligent go tariff then only certain charges - "smart" might not be the correct term - will work with it...

I'd probably opt for a smart one to take advantage of intelligent go type tariffs. I have an ohme pro which does the trick. I also prefer tethered charges so you're not messing around with the cables every time you charge.
