Bolton match abandoned

I think people saying "why did they call it off", need to be a bit better informed.
The fan who sadly died received CPR for 20 minutes in the stands, it would have been hugely distressing to the hundreds (perhaps thousands) of fans around him, and obviously heartbreaking for the guys family including his son who was with him. For Bolton to carry on regardless would have been extremely insensitive and very difficult. I think and hope Boro would have done the same.

I think the inference of the Sun's headline is that this sort of thing is another example of the 'woke mind virus'.
I'm pleased that games are now halted for such emergencies and I think the seriousness of the situation and likely outcome would be evident to all those dealing with it and in the immediate vicinity. Under those circumstances it is completely right that the same level of sensitivity and respect is extended to those attending games as those on the field of play.

It expressed a disgraceful opinion sadly shared by a number of Boro fans on this thread i.e. let's just crack on with the game while a fan is undergoing emergency life saving treatment in the stands.
To be fair, I don’t think anyone has suggested that on here. It would obviously be grotesque to continue to play while treatment was in progress and when it might make a difference.

There is possibly a debate to be had over what to do after the treatment is completed, and the patient is either stabilised and moved to hospital or sadly confirmed to have died, and so our actions have no further direct consequence. There is no doubt that in the past we would simply have played on at that point. Whether this reflects a more callous and brutal or a more realistic and mature attitude to mortality is possibly open to debate. I do not think previous generations were necessarily callous and brutal but I do think the current practice is probably a better balance for the 21st century. So I am good with abandoning the match. But I don’t think this is one of those issues that you have to polarise into good vs evil.

Edit: should of course add, as it might not be clear from the above, my view that the Sun headline as posted completely bypasses any of that nuance, creates a ridiculous and artificial culture war point over this issue, and is exactly what you’d expect from that scum paper.

In the past the spectator would've been whisked away in an ambulance and play resumed.

With the medical expertise and equipment at football grounds now, in most cases it is better to stabilize the patient on the spot before moving on to the hospital. We have seen this save lives of players and fans in the past, sadly not in this case. If this means long delays or a match been abandoned, then so be it.

RIP to the fan concerned.

As for the newspaper headline. Is anybody surprised by anything that odious rag prints.

Have to say card cheat that is a dreadful story.
I think I'll change my opinion on this one.
Bless him.
I agree under those circumstances definitely right thing to do.
Thanks for the update

Condolences o all involved.

I thought something like this may have happened at the Boro Villa game last week. In the south stand, mid way through the first half. I did make a thread but it go no responses on it. Infact, it will have been a few seats behind where Yousef had his sing song.
