Coburn v Ballard

Assuming they’re both playing this could be a bit feisty. If you cast your mind back to the 0-4 game earlier this season you will no doubt remember the “bit of a do” the two of them had just before half time at the stad de shoite. I’d imagine there’ll be no love lost if these two meet up again on Sunday 😵‍💫 has the makings of another niggly game this one - don’t be surprised if there’s another early bath for someone

Hope he tw@s him back

I don’t think Coburn did elbow Ballard as plenty of mackems were claiming - it was more like an old fashioned shoulder charge to me, but I’m sure Ballard will be looking for revenge if he can

If Ballard plays like he did against Newcastle, the only thing stopping Coburn getting a hatrick will be Ballard putting the ball into his own net before Coburn gets chance to.

To be fair Ballard isn’t bad at this level - he’s a big unit like Coburn but he’s usually been one of the mackems better players whenever I’ve seen any of their games

He's one of the worst CBs I can remember seeing at this level.

The amount of time he spends on his ar** shows how bad his positioning is. He's clumsy, poor in possession from what I've seen. He is a big unit though and attacks the ball well in the air.

Maybe I just haven't seen him play well as I only really watch Sunderland against us or in a game against a decent top 10 or so side.

I’ve never seen him not deserve to get sent off yet. He’s just a dirty spud

Considering you have a squad that has Fry, Lenihan and Clarke, that’s a bit rich, the reason you never got automatic promotion last year was you conceded too many goals, Ballard is light years ahead of all of them.

I feel so sorry for you.

Decades of watching that dross has totally ruined your ability to judge a player.

He's a carthorse in my opinion but all the best.

To be fair to Sunderland, they're a lot better defensively with Ballard in the team - Other than getting battered 4-0 by us, and losing 3-0 to Coventry, they haven't really suffered any heavy defeats with him in the team this season. He was injured for a lot of last season where they conceded a lot more, and I think they conceded 4 or 5 a few times.

I still think he's a weak link when up against a quick/skillful player though - and he'd worry me if he was in our team because he's not very good with the ball at his feet.

Yep fair summary - he’s an old style centre back, not so good with the ball at his feet but can clear his lines a dish out a bit of the rough stuff. Ok for this level but as you say he’d get the run around in the prem

I think Josh is above his years in terms of a 21 year old target man. The season in league one did he the world of good.

He can absolutely handle himself against any champo CB. I have no worries that physically he can go toe to toe with anyone (see Spurs and Chelsea).

I always remember Warnock saying at 18-19 he'd go up against Sol Bamba 'no f*cks given' in training. That say a lot 👌
