BBC Sounds documentary on 20 years since the League Cup win

Just watched the trailer on X and the tears developed.

Wow what a time that was. 20 years ago but some of those Schwarzer saves were like yesterday but what the club have been through since feels like a lifetime ago.

Got to give it a watch.

Still kicking myself that I was a disinterested 11 year old, stayed at my grandparents whilst my mum, step-dad and brother went down to Cardiff.

Missed out on the biggest day in our history because I didn't like football as a kid.

I was very fortunate that my mate and I decided to get half season tickets that season, and we were able to get tickets.

I can still remember him staying over at mine the night before the final and I hadn't slept due to the excitement. Then we literally slept throughout the entire journey home.

Got a day off school as well so that was an added bonus.

I often think about whether he still attends games. We never kept in touch but it was great to share that experience with him.

The only final I didn't go to...went up to Glasgow and watched it with my brother who couldn't get a ticket. Our sacrifice was Boro's gain...should have stayed away from Eindhoven 🫣

I'm in a similar boat. Did the 90s losing finals, but didn't have a season ticket in 2004 or live locally, my Dad did go and queue up for me at the Riverside the Sunday before, but was out of luck. Obviously didn't expect a final every year in the next 20 years, but given we had been to 4 in 7 years at the point thought we might have had at least one in the past 17 years. As a lesson to any youngsters, take any experience while it's available!

Brilliant memories.

I remember us going 2 - 0 up and genuinely couldn’t believe it was happening. A very emotional day.

Over the past couple of years, I would say since the first Covid lockdown, watching old Boro stuff brings a real lump to my throat. I can’t really explain it. I absolutely love this football team.

It was a great day out in Cardiff, felt very weird coming away having WON!

What are we supposed to do now? 🤷‍♂️:D

I always give a shout out to the Bolton fans who were great everywhere I encountered them and magnanimous in defeat afterwards (more than could be said for their rrsehole of a manager). At least they appear to be on an upward trajectory now after years of struggles and failures (far exceeding ours)

The greatest day of my life (my wife wont read this).

2 things from that day. Listening to a father tell his son on the way out without a hint of irony, "That was the best day of my life, son" and how it was the longest 70 minutes of football after Davies scored.

Spine tingling, remember getting the train in to Cardiff on the Saturday and seeing the stadium and thinking wow we’re playing there tomorrow, then on The Gatekeeper for an amazing Saturday afternoon.

The Sunday was just surreal from nearly missing the train as our taxi didn’t turn up (stayed in Swansea), to seeing the team bus drive past the Brains Beer pop up stand to being 2 nil up, all in what seemed like a couple of minutes. Spent most of the second half out the back as it just got too much🙈

I was exactly the same, but one year younger.

I remember going to walk the dog in Albert Park with my uncle before kick off, coming home just as it started and then watching the second half in my Aunty's house. Dad and brother both went to the pub to watch it and I don't think I saw them until the next day.

The obsession started in 04/05.

First time I saw my old man cry.

My grandad had just got ill a couple of months before so he didn't end up going and I took his ticket (I wasn't a season ticket holder back then). So glad he saw us lift a trophy before he passed.

I dont think any day in my life will pass that day. I remember the night before we were all giddy and drinking until the early hours. After the match I've never felt so drained, none of us knew how to react it was surreal.

Those men will forever be part of our history.

Took my 7 year old daughter and bought her a horn outside the ground - the sort that is attached to a gas cannister. Officials took it off her at the gate and she was distraught. Ten minutes into the game and I am going crazy with the rest of the Boro fans as we go 2:0 up, whilst my kid is sitting there with her arms crossed angry as hell.
