Do you tip your barber after a haircut?

Went today strangely, tipped £11 up to £15 which is probably a bit excessive but he got a bonus for not trying to engage in small talk.
I wish there was a way of signalling you don't want to chat sh** with the barber without being obviously rude about it.

I reckon a barbers advertising that they have TVs and music on and will only chat if you want to would do a roaring trade with the grumpy sods like me out there.

I feel the same about taxi drivers, and people on trains who wrongly assume I don’t have a phuck load of podcasts to listen to.

And blokes in toilets who can’t just stand there in silence. I’m having a ****, I’m not in here to make friends.

At the sandwich shop it said £3.20 for a sandwich to be made so I paid £3.20

In the pub a pint costs £4.80 so I paid £4.80.

When I had my roof done the quote was £6000 so I paid £6000.

When I bought some shoes priced £80 so I paid £80.

My window cleaner says £12 per visit so I pay him £12 per visit.

All of these involved somebody doing a job for me/getting something for me/giving a good service and I paid the agreed price.

My barber says £10 on the board so I pay him £10.

Cannot think of any reason why I would choose to pay some of these people more. And surely if we pay one of these more than the agreed price then we pay everybody more, no?

If they give a good service I pay the agreed price for a good service. A bad service would surely be a discount?

Tomahawk Steakhouse are shocking for it.

Trying to push 15% service charge on an already massively overpriced meal.

It's barely optional if you have to specifically opt out and you have to tell the servers themselves that you don't want them to have the tip before they take it off.
Everywhere is adding on the "optional" service charge now. I hate it as a practice because they know most people won't ask for it to be removed because it makes you look like a d*ck.

Absolutely, who does that? Seems like the perfect way to ruin a nice relaxed evening is by making 'a scene'.

If you don't want someone to talk to you just pretend you are a bit deaf and can't really hear what they are saying.
Doing anything nice this weekend?
Half a sack of potatoes.
Where you going on your holidays?
Ian Beale.
Bit chilly out there today.
No thanks I'm driving.
I think I am a bit, or have massively waxy ears as I get older -hello ladies - so all I end up doing is going 'oh yeaaa yea' or 'no I know what you mean' depending on their tone.

Your way sounds more fun.

I cut my own hair. I'm not going to pay some other c*nt to do it when I can do a better job of it myself. I don't tip myself afterwards though.

No I don't tip unless its exceptional service. For a barbers and me being a 70% baldy get, the only way he gets a tip is if its like a Turkish barbers and I'm paying to get pampered! Either that or he Jimmy Carrs me and I come out with a full head of hair again.

Tipping seems insidious to me if it becomes expected for just doing your job. This isn't America.

Fair enough, barber might not know which is head and which is **** crack ;)
Racist.
The moment I realised I was middle aged wasn't a birthday or owt. It was when I went for a haircut and the barber asked if I wanted my eyebrows trimming.

My eyebrows are quite terrifying. They grow really quickly and they're really thick (just like Nobby) and you get the odd rogue grey hair that hides in there and you wake up one morning to find it sticking up vertically and it'll be about three times as long as the other eyebrow hairs so you have to yank it out by the roots.

Hair still has all its colour, eyebrows are crazy, and the beard is completely grey if I let it grow. Getting old is a pain in the backside.

Who is paying for the DJ though?

Always tip 2 or 3 quid. I don’t go anywhere that feels a blokes haircut should cost North of £15 though…

I usually take him for a drink and buy his beer all night and get him a takeaway if he wants one - I shave my own napper.

Regarding tipping, I don't mind tipping for good service but don't like the idea of the surcharge already being added to your bill.
