Pete Wylie & The Mighty Wah!

Couple of friends saw him on separate nights. One said he was great (Glasgow, I think); the other (London), a huge fan, said he was rambling a bit between songs and it spoilt it a bit.

Apropos of nowt, I saw Wah Heat! on the Nah Poo tour, 81, 82, something like that. He was utterly ***ed, carrying a bottle of Jack Daniels, leather trousers, the lot - I think he thought he was Jim Morrison. Still great, but he was all over the place.

Seen him in the smaller room at the O2 Academy in Liverpool in 2022 & he was pretty much a busted flush! Lots of ramblings about the Tories & Thatcher, which whilst she smashed the working classes & the North in the 80's, he needs to concentrate on the quality of his own performance. Was really looking forward to his rendition of Story of the Blues, one of my all-time to ten tunes, but he was pretty poor. Don't think I'd ever bother going to see him again, went to see Billy Idol at the First Direct Arena a few days later & the difference of quality of performance was night & day, all be it Idol plays with a very good backing band.

The 'rambling' is a large part of what he is/does - wouldn't be half as good without. Met him(again) afterwards at Leeds and he was brilliant as usual and remembered the 3 Boro boys who were there which was great.

Still got my battered Story of the Blues 7" somewhere in the loft. Pete tells a great story about how he was the last scouser to play Eric's before it was shut down. The Psychedelic Furs were the final band to play the venue.

He was talking about the Erics incident to the 3 of us Boro boys in attendance after the Leeds show - said they were turned off mid-set.

I saw him, Mike Peters of The Alarm and Kirk Brandon of Spear of Destiny do a cracking show at The Cornerhouse in Boro probably 20 years ago. All three were excellent and pretty taken aback at the superb reception they got.

That was the resistance tour - another fantastic night. Saw a few of those and also the dead men walking ones which had Glen Matlock and quite a few others along the way.

I like Pete Wylie does a great version of the Clash's Stay Free I got it on some free cd stuck on a music magazine years ago, also pretty sure I have seen Wah! Heat or whatever they were called at the time a couple of times but not 100% sure where did they play Middlesbrough Rock Garden around 1980 ish ?
