IF Carrick goes...

I've put this on the other thread regarding Carrick - I think in his defence, the injuries have hampered our progress this season and we haven't once been able to field our best eleven. Just look at the players missing again today, Carrick must feel like he's working with his hands tied behind his back.

Bottom line is we are not much further forward from when he arrived. Harsh bur fact
Maybe we are in this moment, but I think we've progressed a long way in terms of our playing side structure and strategy.

I think in any event some critical thinking needs to be applied, rather than blindly looking at the league position.

We came within a whisker of the PO final last season and played some of the best football we've seen for many a year.

So we know we have a manager who can manage a winning team.

This season was realistically always going to be very hard to repeat last season's achievements; we lost almost half a team of outstanding players and we brought in a lot of younger players, which will always need time to settle and develop. But we look to have made some reasonable signings (one of which has already left for big money), the squad overall is stronger and so far the strategy is working. It's one that will take a number of transfer windows to mature though.

Throw into that the injuries and I think it's a reasonable achievement to be where we are, give or take a few places - I certainly don't think we should be in the top 6 places, there are too many better, more mature teams than ours to compete with.

Can’t keep playing a style of football we don’t have the players to implement
I am in agreement with this. Nothing wrong with Carrick's preferred style of play it's just the implementation. We are making too many mistakes in possession and in particular in dangerous areas of the pitch. The last two wins have eased the pressure so hopefully players will feel more comfortable on the ball.

We didn't make any mistakes away at QPR.

We played a totally different style. Dieng went long more than he went short. We stopped giving it to players under pressure in our own 3rd.
I think both contributed to the win, but we converted the few chances we had and prevented QPR from doing the same.

Surely, we couldn't go long before we had a fit centre forward. Latte Lath's return has changed a lot. We definitely mixed it up didn't we but we definitely played out from the back as well as hitting it long.

I`ll be majorly disappointed if Carrick leaves, I like his football, its the best we have been since after the Southgate relegation, with perhaps the odd game from Mowbray and 1 from Karanka.

I hope Mr Airport lumps number 2 Chairman (I`ll have your shoes) flossington doesn't b***r this up.

Of course we could. We just never tried. It's not like we are lumping it forward and expecting Lath to challenge in the air. We are trying to get it wide and hit channels and still get the ball down. We are just playing more direct and trying to start the move on the half way line now instead of inside our own penalty area.

I, plus plenty of others, have been saying for months that we need to play the odd long one to push back the press. We aren't good enough to keep playing out from the back when we are under such a high press.

Massive difference

If your a carpenter and someone sells your tools can you do your job?

It's got everything to do with Steve Gibson.
I'm not a carpenter but if someone sold my hammer and replaced it with a screwdriver, I wouldn't keep using it to knock nails in.
Something like that anyway.
