We had a fair few ants last year in our kitchen
They disappeared but have resurfaced since the end of February. Been in the house nearly 30 yrs and never had any bother but we had the kitchen done 2 yrs ago. That's the only difference I can think of.
I've put down 3 DEAD FAST ant killer pods.
The ants are supposed to come into the trap and take the bait back to the nest and they should all die. They seem to thrive on the stuff without the dying. They are living under a skirting board but I cant tell where they are going from there. They are black ants some very tiny and others quite big.
Anyone recommend a decent ant killer.

My front garden is riddled with them from about May to Sep. They’re invincible. Tried every type of the products you can get, takes out a few of the cannon fodder at first, but they soon regroup.

Best thing I ever used was those Milton Sterilising Tablets - you dissolve them using boiling/hot/warm water - but do not apply when too hot for reasons following.

When the mix is cool, spray it on the little bu99ers when you can see enough of them and what happens is that their nest scent is destroyed - so when they go back they all start fighting because there's an unidentified invasion. If the water is boiling it just kills them outright so that isn't optimal. Took around 5 days and we never saw them again

BLF.... have you considered buying an ant eater ?

Ant bait traps, make your own borax poison, and ant powder/granules. Powder is a contact killer and if they're behind the skirting board, take it off and hammer loads of powder behind it into the cracks and holes behind the board.

The bait traps, granules & borax will destroy the nest as a whole but you'll want to try seal any entry routes into the house ideally

I had bother with them for the first time ever last summer - and what actually got rid of them in the end was spraying lemon juice around on all surfaces. Cost less than 50p for a bunch in Aldi, squeezed them into an empty plastic spray bottle - and couldn't believe it actually worked

Had a problem last year in the place in the canaries in a spare room, bait traps plus ant powder sorted it. You can’t get rid of them you can just persuade them to take a different route. Worked for me.

At least they’re not in your pants ✔️

A bottle of cheap white vinegar from Aldi and add a small amount, not loads, of washing up liquid. Squirt liberally along the line where the path joins the house brickwork. We get them every spring and it works for us.

Put a dollop of jam on the floor and wait with an empty jar and a pair of tweezers and just kidnap them individually as they appear and place in said jar.

When no more ants emerge into the room seeking yummy jam you have captured them all. Then rehouse the little blighters somewhere humane, like your mother in laws kitchen for a giggle.

I wouldn’t recommend this tactic for a wasps nest though.

I once bought a large plant from B&Q. I placed it in the corner of my flat and went off to sea for 10 days whilst serving in the Navy.

I came back and noticed a few random ants on my kitchen work tops. Obviously thinking 'that's odd'

Then quickly realised that almost everywhere I looked were ants walking around on my kitchen surfaces and floor. I had an almost perfect straight line of then crossing from my plant in the living room into my kitchen. 100s of them. The plant had an ants nest in the soil.

I launched the £60 plant into the bin. It was days before I was ant free. Although the majority found in varying states of dying. I just threw ant powder everywhere. Basically used it like shake and vac 😂. That said it wasn't great for my hoover. Ruined the filter.
