Good players we have let go and regretted.

The Morsy one is interesting because the way he was talked about on here at the time is similar to how people talk about Engel, Silvera, and Barlaser.

There is never a concept that someone could take time to adjust or have a run of poor form before turning it around. They are always "not good enough".

Chuba and Zenden from times past were others. Sometimes it takes time and persistence.

James Morrison the most annoying one for me, he was a great young player for us and we didn't need to sell. Always thought he might come back but never did.

Lee Cattermole went on have a good career after us. We never replaced him that season.
Always thought that Didier Digard was a direct replacement for Cattermole.
Cattermole put Digard out of action for 3 months as a result of a typical Cats tackle when we played Wigan.

Aye.

It's the need to talk in absolutes that I don't get either.

If you don't rate, say, Silvera, surely it's more reasonable to say something like "I don't like him, not sure he has what it takes".

Than

"never a footballer, he'll never be better than league 1".

The absolute certainty than some have, that must include by definition, being certain they know better than actual experts like Carrick or Danks, is staggering.

I think it hasn't helped a lot of our players that they haven't played in settled teams. Karanka and Carrick last year rarely changed the line up and when they did it would be one or two players.

Was Boateng at the same time?

He was on the decline but still good enough for the prem for another year or 2 and better than what we replaced him with.
Yes he went to Hull fora couple of seasons and we got Digard, who i didn't mind but didn't have anywhere near the workrate

Mark Schwarzer, I know we had him for a good length of time but we wouldn't have got relegated if he was still around 08-09 season
Yes - that was a disastrous decision not to give him a new contract. He’d need a stalwart for us and was still good for another 5 years of too flight football. It cost us dearly in the end, and i don’t think we’ve ever really replaced him with anyone as good.
