Next England manager who do you want…

I'd have absolutely no problem with the England manager being foreign, when most other countries bring in foreign coaches it seems pointless limiting ourselves if there was a candidate available.

In an ideal world, it would only be people from that country representing and coaching the team, but it's not the case.

There is only one man for the job, and he is not English...

He is responsible for Giving Hayden Hackney a break and steadying the wobbling ship.

Lack of passion would never be a problem!

All 22 World Cups have been won by a team managed by a national of that country.
In 16 European Championships, only one winning team had a foreign manager (Greece).

The most successful nations like France, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain don't turn to foreign managers for success and I don't think we should either. It's not as if Eriksen and Capello have made a convincing case for us to do so.

England should be absolutely fine managed by an English manager, however that might not be the case regardless of who takes over from Southgate as that person will be required to play all out attacking football, never get a bad result, pick everybody's flavour of the month and of course, win a trophy with this group of players as anything less is abject failure. It used to be called the impossible job until Southgate took it on, I fear it will be labelled that again after he goes.

I would pay a ridiculous mount of money to tempt Pep Guardiola.
The best coach in the world with so much respect from the players.

England have a very good young team with loads of attacking talent.

Surly it would be coming home.👍

Brazil have just tried to turn to Ancelloti, an Italian, he turned them down.

Argentina have went through more managers than players, Scaloni was their 8th appointment in 10 years, he just managed to get the best player of all time to carry them through to victory.

The stats about the World Cup and Euro winners is interesting, but there aren't many nations that have actually won a trophy, and most of those that have are large populations with established football systems, you get the odd outlier in the Euros, but I don't think the nationality of the manager is the reason for any of their victories.

I'd prefer the manager was English, but I'm not going to turn my nose up at a Klopp just because he's foreign.

It's definitely going to be Lee Carsley anyway.
He probably turned down the Ireland job because he knew a much bigger offer could potentially be available after the summer.

I wouldn't be against it but I think it'd be extremely hard to implement Pep's style for players not training together day in day out. They are ridiculously well drilled. He also would not have the luxury of a global transfer market to get specialist players for every position.

Yep, there is no guarantees in life.
But for me, he is currently the best manger in the world.
Absolutely. Plus Guardiola wouldn’t be coming from abroad like Capello or Sven. He understands the English game, along with the major talent we have, media etc.

Pep or Potter = absolutely zero comparison. I couldn’t care less if our manager was English, or if they all want to be bezzies or feel the loving warmth of the inclusive culture - I want them to win!!!!

He might be, but we have non idea if he could implement it in an international team where he doesn’t get to work with players on a daily basis
So do you know anyone better than pep who does work with an international team?
I agree it’s a gamble, but surly one worth taking?

If he’s available and we’re looking then yes give it a go….but he would have to be pragmatic, you can play like city without familiarity of the players to the system. You don’t get enough time with the players to teach them to play that intricately as an international manager. It would of course be interesting to see what he could do

You also don't get to buy better ones.

Very true pep has never had to manage a basket case like us or Sheff Utd. He’s only ever managed elite clubs with elite budgets which has given him a massage advantage over 95% of teams from the off

True, but there is a reason why he has never had to manage clubs like Sheffield united.
Imagine if the FA had given Cloughie the job? We might have had another trophy in the cabinet?

Nationality shouldn't be a factor imo, give it to the best person for the job.

Reminds me of Gibbo hamstringing himself w/ every managerial appointment by refusing to approach those already in work.

He approached Garry Monk whilst he was Leeds manager, it worked wonders.

Maybe it's paying compensation that was the issue, rather than a moral point of not poaching.
