Ayling

Is there an argument after this season, to not tweak every single position on day one? Which would make Ayling a great signing.

......................Dieng
Ayling....Rav.......Clarke......Bangura
.................xxxxx......Hackney
Jones.......xxxxx.......xxxxxx
.....................Lath

if we replaced 3 players on day one, got another CF to challenge Lath, It wouldn't be back to trying to get players knowing each other again.
If the back 4 and keeper have already trained and are fully fit, that helps too.

I'd have Forss ahead of Jones as per last year.
You only have 3 new signings shown. I don't see that as nearly enoughh to bridge the quality gap.
I personally don't see Clarke as a first teamer in a promotion side, nor Ayling, Bangura or Lath.

Sadly however I don't see MFC signing 7 first teamers, so some of those will almost certainly start.
They would be decent bench/squad options on top of the quality signings required.

Don’t you think Forss is injured too much to be relied on?

I would have given Forss ago at CF and played Jones RW, when both fit at some point, that’s one of the only complaints I have had against Carrick over the season, him not giving this a go.

I would play a back 5 with jones as the RWB and have Forss playing every time he’s fit.

Clarke is comfortably good enough for a promotion chasing side. How can anyone criticise him. He’s F***ing brilliant.
I don't see that at all.
I think he can play in a 3 on the left side, provided the LWB is quick.
I don't think he is anywhere near good enough in a flat back 4.

He's a decent enough stopper.

He has been injured a lot more than I'd like him to have been and you raise a good point.

I really like him. He has decent pace, is the best finisher at the club, supports his full back and has a bit of edge/nastiness to him which I like.
I do think Jonesy is a little better defensively, but Forss is much more dangerous going forward for me.

I'd have Forss in front of Jones just because he's a bit more of a goal threat and we need those 3 players behind the striker contributing.

But it's the one position we've got genuine competition and 2 players who are of a good standard. Not many other positions on the pitch. Maybe CB?

We need at least 6 good genuine options across those 3 positions. Ideally with a bit of flexibility. Last season we had:

Forss
Akpom
McGree
Ramsey
Crooks
Jones

This season we've gone with

Forss
Jones
Azaz / Rogers
McGree
Greenwood (Loan)
Silvera
Gilbert
Crooks ???

We definitely to add some quality in there next season to press on.

He has definitely improved but to be fair after his first few games that wasn’t hard. He was absolutely dreadful. With Smith on the books, I would prefer the club to be signing a young, hungry right-back who goes straight into the team. I think Ayling is just another short-term solution tbh. As much as I like his attitude, I would hope Boro are looking for something a bit more longer term tbh.
This. I mean, he's willing and he gets forward with eagerness, but he's very limited. He can get done easily by someone good. As Frozen Horse said, it's him or Smith - but either has to be there as a back up for me. We need someone who can really play.

Forss is on his way guys from what I've heard, strange how he's already been ruled out for the season isn't it ?

I wouldn’t sign Ayling. He might be a nice guy but if we are serious about promotion you need someone stronger/quicker. That’s why Leeds were happy to send him out on loan.

I really rate Forss, I hope the rumour posted above is not true.

And if he stays I hope he keeps free of injury.

I agree. Forss is probably my favourite player but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him and McGree go. Not because the club will want to sell. I just have a feeling they want to move on. Especially McGree.

Taken off after 19 minutes with injury.
Misses a vital knock-out match for his country because of the same injury.

Absolutely nothing strange about it at all.

He picked up a bad injury, he's been injury prone since we signed him.

Leave it to Boro fans to make a conspiracy out of it though.

My feelings also, once a player wants to leave, it's about getting the best price for them…I have seen too many players over the years down tools.
