Luke Thomas ….

22 years old, in and out of the side, played a total of 337 minutes which is 3.7 games.

At least be fair.
3.7 games too many - he's a liability. I do think it is a confidence thing, but like I said, we're not a charity case. On current form he should be nowhere near the team. Engel was terrible against Saints, but Thomas was arguably worse against Sheff Wed - who fortunately were too poor to take advantage.
Engel at least has had good games, so should come back in and maybe Bangura gets a run of games before the season's end too. Be good to see if he's up to it - sporadic appearances so far suggest maybe not also.
Engel gives the impression he's one of those potential cult hero 'trier' types - a bit like Ayling - who partly overcome their glaring limitations by sheer force of will, but who will always ultimately found out at a given level.

First impressions in football can sometimes be a little deceiving. When I first saw Bola I questioned whether he was actually a footballer. He improved over time without having the technical ability to push on and be anything other than lower championship level. Who knows what ceiling Thomas has. Granted he does not seem to have the physicality and he has looked a little lost but it is a little early to write him off.

Played well 2nd half but we have to judge him on his overall performance whilst he's been here, and I've been mostly underwhelmed by him.

I personally feel signing a LB needs to be a priority this summer, and then I'd be sending either Engel or Bangura out on loan.

He's been getting minutes consistently since he came in, so either is a stipulation of his loan (which I think is unlikely, albeit possible), or the coaching staff rate him enough to stick with him.

He's still a kid really and we can only judge him from what we see, so if Carrick & co see a player there that's more than good enough for me.
