Daily Telegraph - Seny Dieng

Think we should try and keep him, unless an offer that’s too good to turn down arrives.

I would also love to see the faces of the QPR fans, who were laughing that we paid them money a few short months ago, if a big sale did happen.

Didn’t think we would get as good as Steffen at playing out, but credit to the club for managing it.

Nice explanation of how FFP and Amortisation work, much appreciated and it would be nice to spend money in the close season for a real promotion push with the best manager we have had for years. However, what still confuses me , if we are fine with FFP, is why Gibbo took a payment from some company based upon the fee we received for Tav. That was my understanding of it anyway, based upon posts made here or am I wrong in my understanding?

Dieng is a good goalkeeper - a position we have struggled with. Why sell him?
VdB is an excellent CB prospect, why sell him?
The club has P&S scope to sign quality. Why on earth make things harder by then having to source players to replace quality we already have?
The club needs promotion. It needs quality to get promoted and it has nowhere near enough just now.

I don't understand this nonsense about the fee being too good to turn down, or us being unable to keep a player and have to let him go.
I'd much rather our focus was on who was coming in to boost us into becoming a promotion winning side, rather than who could be sold to make a nice profit in a short time.

Cash flow.
The arrangement made by MFC, the selling club, ensures the club receives the entire fee immediately, rather than waiting for the fee in instalments over time from the buying club. The lender pays the club the fee up front, the club pay a charge to the lender and the lender then receives the payments from the buying club.
The third party buys the deal at a discount from MFC in return for immediate cash

Given the club is bankrolled by Gibson O'Neill I'm not sure why it is so critical to the club itself, as cash is ultimately guaranteed by the parent.

P&S (FFP) focuses on Profit before tax and the multitude of allowances that are allowed.
Amortisation (fee across length of contract) together with loan fees, agent fees and wages are within this Profit before Tax base.
When cash is paid or recieved is not actually relevant for FFP, though it is highly relevant for the business.

Until we go up, this speculation will be rife every, single transfer window.
If our players impress then it is only natural that clubs in higher divisions will take interest.
And, if we do get £10m for him, or whatever, then this is a healthy way to run a Champo club - sell players at a good profit then reinvest.
It’s often a good way of getting relegated too

It's really not surprising. He's arguably been Boro's best signing. We honestly wondered how we would replace Steffen. Yet we did comfortably for a fraction of the wages.

Dieng was heavily linked with a move to the likes of Arsenal 2 years ago. I'm guessing as a back up keeper. He was QPRs player of the season prior to last year. That's why I thought it was strange that they 'laughed' at us for signing him.

Clearly had a few issues last season. Yet in a awful side. So basically a bad season out of 2-3.

His none exclusion after he was fit annoys me. The fact Carrick continued with Glover has arguably cost us 6 very important points. The moment Dieng was fit he should have come back into the side.

He has our best keeper by a country mile. The 3-4 games he was picked ahead of the then fit Dieng was telling. Also cost us🙄

I would be disappointed with £5m from a EPL club if we did sell him this Summer.

Randolph went for around that, but it was 2017 - we are seven years on and prices have shot up. More like £7.5m now which is peanuts to a EPL club.

We shouldn’t be selling unless it’s absolutely ridiculous money and the lad wants to go - it really isn’t easy finding a good goalkeeper, even if you have plenty of money to spend

I was told a rumour that it was a disciplinary thing? No idea what Seny is supposed to have done/not done but it seems a credible explanation. If we got a good offer for Dieng, Glover has proved to be a reasonable replacement and we have the well regarded Sol Brynn waiting for a chance.

Glover is gash. Would not hold down a starting position in any Championship club and so far below what we need in a keeper.

Wasn't it something to do with unauthorised leave??? I think he took a two-day break or something with his missus on the way back from AFCON, did not notify the club, and it didn't sit well with Carrick if that is true 'obvs'... and was forced to sit a few out ..also was docked wages

Though to me it seems harsh if true, a couple of days R&R after the AFCON was likely what he'd have been doing anyway, only on club grounds with our facilities, etc .. he probably just took the break not thinking we'd be bothered but I am not sure, that is just what I read/heard couple times

Anyway, it is in the past now. People started making up all sorts of shyte saying he wanted to leave around the time it happened, haha.

There is no doubt we'll be getting some bids in for him that's for sure come the Summer, I just hope MC has convinced him his future is here. I think he's class and hope he is here for a good while, about time we've had a proper keeper nailed down in the team.

At first, I didn't think Rogers was a bad no.2 at all when we first saw him in games, still only young, but I started to go off him of late. Was getting early Jason Steele vibes but I am convinced there is a lot more in him, he just tailed off after a decent start. It's right though, to say starting him when Dieng was available probably cost us, but anyway ..

Hopefully, SD is with us for a long time and we go on to do better if we have a good Summer and a bit of luck along the way

Any Boro player that has a decent twenty minutes in a game is immediately touted for sale. What's the point of the club now?
How do you know the club is touting him about? What's the point of making that statement when you have no evidence that there is any touting about from the club and that this is nothing more than paper talk?
Or is it just another chance to have a go at the club cos you're peeved at other things such as ticket prices?

Yeah that was the rumour. Also Glover agreed to drop out of Australia squad to play for us too I think? Whereas Dieng messed about flying over even though clearly injured (and sounds like no chance of being fit for AFCON).

So if that's true you can understand MC wanting to be as fair as possible to Glover. Unfortunately for him he didn't do enough to keep his place.

Yeah there was a kind of perfect storm that hit the Club in January.

The energy sapping semi finals, the injuries to Hackney and Jones, the sale of Morgan Rogers and Matty Crooks, and goalkeepergate as above. Is it any wonder our season was derailed from then on in just a few short weeks. Pretty much from the defeat at home to Villa in the FA Cup 3rd Round.
