Was very dangerous today - by dangerous obviously i mean by setting up chances for the opposition 😳 three times he was caught napping and luckily we got away with all three. He can pick a pass but he’s just too slow to be a first team starter for a side that wants promotion - just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♂️
 
I'm starting to think should we consider selling him this summer. I reckon Rotherham would have him back there and I'd settle for us getting the money back that we'd spent on him.

I'm warming to O'Brien and I'd be happy for us to have Hackney, O'Brien, Howson and a new DM as our midfield options next season.

As much as I don't rate Barlaser, I dont think we'll sell him.
There's a good chance that none of our other 3 CMs will be here next season. O'Briens wages will surely be too expensive for us to sign him.

Howson out of contract and there's arguments to be made for and against giving him another year.

There's PL interest for Hackney and we will struggle to hold onto him.

We need to keep a certain amount of consistency through the squad so I think we are probably stuck with him for another season but hopefully behind 3 competent CMs. I do hope we keep at least one of Hackney / Howson. If Hackney is going to be away, we should definitely re-sign Howson.

I'm very confident Howson will be offered a one year deal and will sign it.

I actually think Hackney being injured for large periods of the season will mean he'll stay under the radar for now - I don't think there's going to be massive interest in him this summer. He's not actually had a great season when you think about it, although we know that's partly down to the injuries and the fact Carrick was playing him out of position just before he last got injured.

O'Brien has been putting in a lot of effort recently. This suggests to me that he may be feeling settled here and may be trying to impress Carrick, in the hope that we make a bid at the end of the season. If that's the case then I'm sure he'd be prepared to take a wage cut if we do want to sign him.

He's not good enough. I guess as a squad player he'd do. Yet 35 year old 'CB' Howson would walk into a CM pairing with O'Brien or Hackney ahead of him.

He went from prime Carrick at UTD against Sheff wed to me in CM to me in the space of a few days.

I'd have Rav back as a CB and Howson in for Barlaser in a heartbeat for the remainder of the season. I'm not sure what Dan brings? We've not seen goals or assists. The odd nice or tidy pass. Definitely shy of a tackle. I'm not sure what CM box he ticks?
 
As a deep lying playmaker he will always be inconsistent but I believe he’s a valuable member of the squad.

I thought he did well today (obvious mega error apart). He needs to improve his quality when pressed, although I don't think some of our players helped him at times. We need players offering themselves and creating angles and we didn't do that with near enough quality.

His biggest failings for me have been his intensity out of possession, which he is improving.
 
He’s one of those players who’ll you’ll always be cursing for gifting the opposition a goal - a bit like Engel. Capable of playing well sometimes, but not often enough to be a first choice starter.

Was just about to say this too.

He is a luxury we don’t need with a fully fit squad.

He won’t get a game next season if we buy right and keep the players that we need

Saying that Azaz and O’Brien are not the answer. Both go missing in games or don’t turn up at all

Barlaser plays balls that O'Brien doesn't see (and can't play). O'Brien does all those 'ragger' type bits of tidying up that Barlaser is too slow and ponderous to take care of. Barlaser was ok with Howson holding his hand, Howson and Hackney remain by far our best CM pairing.
