Leicester City

It looks like someones going to miss out on automatic with 90 points!

Has this ever happened before?
We were promoted with 91 in 1998 and Sunderland missed out on 90 (and then lost the playoff final to Charlton).

When we were promoted in 2016 we went up on goal difference with 89 so Brighton missed out with 89. Not quite 90 but close.

I presume there are others

I watched the game last night and argyll defended quite well without really being brilliant, or having to be.

17 shots from Leicester and an xg of just 1.41 tells you that none of their efforts were particularly clear cut. This is supported by the fact only 4 of the 17 shots was on target.

Compare that with argyll 5 shots 3 on target.

Leicester probably deserved a draw but no more than that.

The game panned out very much like our 2 games against Leicester.

There isn’t one coming their way if they stay in the championship because they haven’t broken championship P&S limits for a current accounting period including a championship season yet.

It would appear that they will probably be in breach for the period ending June 2024 unless they make some significant sales in the early part of the window. However, the EFL does not have the expedited process that the EPL brought in this year, so the earliest they would be punished for that on the timescale EFL procedures currently work would seem to be during the 25/26 season.

Either way, if you are expecting a championship points deduction to apply next season, I think you will be disappointed.

Edit: the above assumes a charge for a 23/24 breach would be contested. There would be time under current EFL procedures for them to submit 23/24 accounts and come to an agreed decision on punishment before the cut-off point for it to apply in the 24/25 season. But given the noises coming out of Leicester agreed decisions do not seem likely.

2016 suddenly seems like a long time ago!

I really wish I could have been at that final match against Brighton.

#agentfox# reports major discontent with Maresca`s tactics and his refusal to change starting personnel. He continues to pick Patson Daka despite his poor form and fans are questioning his judgement. BBC Radio Leicester put some pertinent questions to him last night, but his response was weak as nats wazz: typically he talks about "reflection" and players being "tired".

Last night, commentators mentioned that Leicester have probably the best squad in the league. Players like Tom Canon, signed from Everton in summer 2023, is reportedly frustrated that, in spite of good performances and consistency, he has played a bit-part whilst Leicester's form plummets.

The Manager's stubbornness and refusal to change his "system" [like they did at the Riverside] means that any team which crowds them out is at an advantage. Radio Leicester commentators observed last night that City players looked "arrogant", just strolling around as if just turning up would guarantee them the three points.

I disagree, Ipswich will only get stronger with investment. Leicester will be in big trouble if they don't go up.
Ipswich’s strength is in their manager. If he leaves and there’s a good chance he does if Ipswich don’t go up, then their house of cards will fall. He’s squeezed every last drop out of that squad. I don’t want another club getting parachute payments. Only makes our job all that bit harder. Leicester will still have a strong squad in spite of a fire sale if they stay down.

Their manager has been moaning on all week on how it was unfair to have to go to play at Plymouth tonight and the players were tired.

Basically he gave his own players a reason not to turn up and they got what they deserved.

Leicester fans are some of the worst
Yeah two long trips! One of which is Leicester to London. I do a longer commute for a days work.

The change in management at Plymouth again back to the caretaker manager who was in charge earlier this season when they were getting good results, has clearly seen an upturn in performance. Their home form in the early part of the season was excellent. Great result for them, as as couple of weeks ago they were plummeting down the table.

Leicester on the other hand - oh dear. From what I saw, they created loads of chances, but finishing was terrible. Plus Plymouth dug in when they needed to.

Ipswich , regardless of goung up or staying
Have 5 key players returning to clubs incl Moore and Sarmiento
Have 9 players contract ending in Jun
A further key 5 players contract ending in Jun 2025 ( with a year to go tie them up now or risk leaving for free )

All players offered contracts to stay will now want champ wages instead of League 1 where they last signed

They've got a bit to do , even before they spend transfer money.

I'd prefer from a Boro point of view only, that they miss out and Leeds and Leic bog off to the top tier

They had two chances with xG around 0.4 I think, which are pretty good chances. Agree the rest of the chances were all very small chances though.

Jamie Vardy came on at 66 minutes, took 18 minutes to have his first touch of the ball and ended up only touching the ball 3 times in the 25 minutes he played.

Anyone with 90 is very unlucky to miss out.

Brighton were very unlucky to miss out with 89 when we pipped them

This division grinds you down in the end. We know it's not high quality overall, but it requires a consistent decent quality to keep winning. If you did below that, you get found out.

Prior to Christmas, 4 teams were well ahead of the 2 points/game mark.i think it's likely that anyone who keeps ahead of that will get automatic

You can't fluke 88 points, they're in the position they are in because of merit.
We will see next season. Plenty of teams have done very well in first season and poor in second season. I don’t expect them to have current manager and the squad is rather old so will need fresh players.

Maybe, but they have a massive war chest to spend and probably no FFP skeletons in the closet preventing them from doing so.
