Is Redcar a nice place to visit?

No, not the town.
I’m on that Mighty Redcar Facebook group and they reckon charging to park in the Town centre has taken a lot of trade away.
Lots of cheap shops anywhere like anywhere else.

I’ve walked from Redcar East into the town before and that’s a nice walk but that’s about it.

It could with a cobbled street area with quaint shops and nice bars and restaurants.

It is a bit weird that it feels like a newish town but it surely must go back hundreds if not a thousand years.

Great beach though and with the massive sea front it might one day be quite the tourist destination again as climate change really gets going in NE England.

Redcar beach is excellent and on a nice day well worth a long walk on.

The vast majority of old seaside resort towns have decayed badly since planes took us cheaply to the Med, instead of trains taking us cheaply to our coast.
We toured the entire GB coast in 2020 and saw every coastal resort/town.
Trust me there are a lot worse than Redcar - troubled as it is.

Withernsea near you Brian is an example.
(not so) Great Yarmouth and Weston (not so super) Mare are bigger examples.

Coatham was mentioned in the doomsday book, so yes its quite old. Redcar took off in Victorian times, particularly when they discovered the iron ore and put a railway in. The industry that followed was centred in Middlesbrough with those getting wealthy off it living it up in Redcar.

I much prefer going to Redcar than Middlesbrough to be honest, take the dog for a walk down there quite often, but when Wetherspoons is the expensive pub on the High St, that might be a bit of an indicator …..🤣

The Regent is nice - especially if you get upstairs in the coffee bar early, good view over the sea (y)

I quite like going to Redcar for a couple of hours. I like to walk along the Stray into town . There's a nice tea shop on the High street and then around a few shops and onto the front. I don't go as often as I used to mind but still every now and again.

Even the vertical pier is closed, due to anti social behaviour
No, it’s closed because of kids messing about, being kids as we all did.
The mitigating factors back in the day were, youth clubs, football after school and there would probably be people working there to chase naughty kids away

They also have one of the only Golf courses in the area which has 18 holes open at the moment due to a sandy base plus you can get a great meal in there, even if you are not a member (Danny is the cook). Better buy a house there now Brian before all the Ben Houchen jobs arrive. It will be Pebble Beach prices before long. (y)

If you want somewhere different to go, miss Redcar out and drive a couple of miles further north to the South Gare (Breakwater) instead.

I always found Redcar a bit a strange mix. So close to Industry, no harbour, no river, no parks, very flat, the main road a bit away from the sea, and it was very spread out, but also felt hemmed in. Then suddenly there is a race course, almost the last thing you would expect. Later I found Kirkleatham which was a hidden jewel to me.

There are relics of Redcar that suggest in say the past it was quite a swinging place for music - Grand Old hotels/ballroom, Coatham Bowl for bands like the Rolling Stones, famous folk club, as sort of mini Scarborough.

New Cinema and Cafe Bar looks almost iconic , never been in yet.

Sea Breeze - excellent fish and chips as good as the best in Whitby and a lot lower price.

Visit Kirkleatham f you like a bit of history or birds of prey and the walled garden will be nice in a few years time when the plants mature.
There's Locke Park.

That sounds an incredible thing to do.
