Anyone think houchen will get back in?

what are you on about??? Clearly not having a candidate would have made zero difference. Choosing a wet fat with zero personality and providing no inspiration, passion or zest for the fight is appalling. Its well known in political circles that Middlesbrough / Teesside Labour are incompetent and laden with inept and poor quality people. Compare Cooke and McEwan with Burnham. Its so poor is laughable and disgusting simultaneously. This election required a younger, fired up and aggressive leader willing to fight fire with fire. Someone engaged on social media with attack dog tactics. And yet here we are, outflanked standing behind someones grandad.
Totally agree. A Burnham like candidate would have ripped Houchen a new one.

No good being a thoroughly nice chap when it comes to politics.

Shocking from the people of Teesside. I’ve said it before, but by comparison at least Scousers know who they are, and where they come from. They would never vote Tory and nor should people from Teesside.

It shows how easy the masses can be influenced and is pretty damning.
People have voted Houchen this time, not Tory. Even the Labour party knows that and has said as much.

Liverpool is a much bigger city, you're comparing apples and bowling balls.

Across the those areas that returned Houchen. Although a bit of a shock. Labour still have a 21% lead in the polls in the event of a GE.
(Sorry, Curtice again..about 15 mins ago)

Yep and worth reminding ourselves that even though the Tories are now going out of their way in media to say "Conservative Ben Houchen" there was still a 17% swing to Labour in the vote for the Tess Valley Mayor.

Bad result for Labour obviously but a 16% swing bodes well for the GE. Houchen essentially campaigned as an Independent on a record of delivery so it's likely that swing will increase.

I can say it now, but in the Labour contest for its Mayoral candidate I voted for Luke Henman. Younger, more energetic, trade union background 🤷‍♂️

I used to think people from Middlesbrough / Teesside were cut from a similar cloth to those from Merseyside given our shared / mirrored history. That all changed with the behavior in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland where the previous Labour MP sabotaged the campaign to allow Simon Clark to take the seat and then the subsequent Boris $hagging that followed. A crowd turning up to cheer an Eton bigot in the thick of poverty sinkhole. Sickening.

If that swing was reflected at the GE. In the NE the Tories would lose all or almost all their seats there.

For balance, Liverpool appointed a Labour led Mayor Joe Anderson multiple times over the years. There was a lot of controversy over his tenure which ended when he didn't seek re-election after being arrested for bribery and fraud. Don't think he was convicted but they never are. He had the nicknames Redrow Joe, because he sold all the council land off to Redrow to build houses and Joe BackhAnderson.

They are that stupid ,Rishi has just announced that Ben is major of Teesside, not the Tees Valley, Nadine Dorries called it North Tees this morning.

They’ve basically made up three quarters of the ground they needed to, and if repeated it’s probably enough to oust all the Teesside tories bar one

Sunak on TV now with a ridiculously hollow victory speech. He now saus because Labour didn't win, they won't win the GE. Desperate, desperate stuff and his own MPs must be cringeing at it. Utterly delusional.
If that’s the case he should show some balls and call the election now
