Man About The House (and other 70s sitcoms)

I'm close to 60, but I tell you what, after decades of watching comedy, 'Yus my Dear' and 'Never the Twain' were the worst examples of entertainment I've ever come across on British TV. In fact, so poor, almost worth cult viewing.

Never The Twain wasn't good at all. The only thing that came out of it for me was watching Donald Sinden and Windsor Davies trying not to corpse.(which they did a lot).
Yus My Dear is to be cast to the rubbish heap, especially in the light of the allegations by Mullards daughter.

Yes Mullard will be airbrushed from TV history. Mind you the accusations levellled at some of the Carry On stars might be grounds for doing so. Where do you stop.

Still laugh at Hylda Baker with Nellie's
Malapropisms

"You haven't had the pleasure of me yet have you?."
"I'll inhale that remark"
"You'll become a couple of alcohofrolics"
"This is a fine hysterical building, kept up by the National Truss"
"I can say that without fear of contraception."
"I've had lessons in electricution, you know"
"What are you incinerating?"
"Look at it in here, it's like Sodom and Tomorrow"

Can I suggest you give Mrs Browns Boys a go, now that is the worst example of entertainment that has ever been broadcast

What about "Call the Midwife" ?
What , it's not a comedy ?
It makes me laugh.

QI certainly doesn't. An awful in-joke program.

I have worked with a students whose family were of Soiuth Asian origin. He's practically addicted to "Mind Your Language" an ITV comedy from the late 1970s. I was surprised people could still view it on line, because of some of its racist undertones.

Somebody sent me a clip from I think youtube of a scene from Love Thy Neighbour.

I knew it was bad but forgot how bad it was. Even allowing for the different times in the 1970s it was terrible that it ever made the screens.

I'm sure any one of the sitcoms above had their terrible scenes but at least it also shares some genuinely funny moments as a result of great comedy acting from Leonard Rossiter, Yootha Joyce Richard O'Sullivan etc. Without them the scripts wouldn't have held up
