    Bamford Celebration

He’s not a snake. He’s a professional footballer. Players are not emotionally invested in clubs in the same way that fans are. They might work hard for the club they’re employed by and say nice things about the club and the fans, and sometimes they may even mean it, but if they receive a better...

    Most Attractive Female Vocalists

I once met Sade in a lift. It wasn't a rock n' roll moment as per the recent thread, because Sade is as un-rock n' roll as you can get, but it was a moment.

    Johnny Rotten

It's just age, that's all. We were all cool in our youth, but some of us lose our way and some more than others. I feel a bit sorry for these guys. As my old Mam used to say "there's no fool like an old fool", but the luckiest old fools are the ones who don't have the 24-hour glare of...

    Johnny Rotten

Ditto I was just going to say it's "The Morrisey Conundrum" when Fattyfoggon beat me to it.

    The Apprentice.

I have to say I love it. The contrast between the ridiculous way they big themselves up and how rubbish they then turn out to be never fails to make me laugh. That episode in the last series where they invented a moisturiser that actually turned your skin green... I stop watching it when they...

    The 70's and Thatcher

Industrial relations during this period were bedevilled by our class system. In other European countries, management and workers were better able to negotiate their way out of trouble because there wasn't the same gulf separating the classes and they therefore found it easier to identify common...

Renewal Announcement - 30th March Deadline

Remarkable. Does the club still pride itself on its connection with the local community?

    Nailed on home win

My Dad had watched the boro since the 1930s and he used to say the boro will beat the top side away one week and lose to the bottom side at home the next. I have been watching the boro since the 1960s and that has also been my experience. I imagine it'll still be the same for those of you...

Do you have a foreign team you support/follow?

Atletico Madrid I lived in Madrid for quite a long time and just always felt more drawn to Atletico. They're quite like the Boro in many ways and their supporters adopt a similar fatalistic approach.

    Eh

Big noisy Boxing Day away crowd, three points would have taken us to the brink of the play-off places, plus we're playing the worst team with the worst defence in the division. They say the life of a football fan is 90% disappointment. With the Boro, make that 95%.

Injuries seem more frequent with footballers

The likelihood of injuries in football can be illustrated by imagining two extremely fit young men repeatedly running into each other at full speed over a period of ninety minutes. As general fitness levels in the game rise, the more likely players are to get injured. I think it was Lee Dixon...

All The Light We Cannot See

I read the Guardian review after I'd watched the first episode. I pretty much agree with the review - it's brightly coloured, implausible and the accents are terrible - but I'm still enjoying it. .

    Caramac Axed after 64 Years

I quite liked Caramac, though I won't miss it. But the sweets they should get rid of are: Parma violets - taste of soap Maltesers - teachers get loads of these and I know for a fact they all hate them, though even they are not as bad as those disgusting "Thank You" chocolate flowers that...

    Bill Gates RIP

He was centre-half in the first Boro team I watched regularly. He was a good solid defender. RIP.

Why are we so disliked by other fans

I've lived away from the area since I was 19 and I've honestly never met any other football fan who hated the Boro. The usual response is a bit of gentle p***-taking. Football fans actually tend to have a lot more respect for fans of a "proper" team like the Boro, even if they are sometimes a...

    Rejoining Horizon. Rejoice, rejoice!

I agree with this and other points made above. There is also the point that people generally are reluctant to talk or even think about Brexit because of the real divisions it opened up in our society. There was a lot of anger around and people simply don't want to go back there. I also think...

    Oppenheimer Film

I enjoyed the film very much. I remember once asking my Dad, who was quite liberal and anti-war, what he thought at the time when they dropped the A bomb on Japan. He said that most people, including him, saw it as a good thing because it meant the end of the war. He thought differently when...

Daisy Jones and The Six on Amazon Prime

I thought it was OK. The music was a bit generic, but that's always a problem with these things. A fictional band is supposed to have a worldwide hit, but actually writing a worldwide hit is a bit easier said than done, so the songs tend to be album-filler standard at best. I didn't really get...

    Wasps nest

We had a wasps' nest right next to our back door a couple of years ago. It was there right through to October. No-one got stung. They seemed more intent on just getting in and out of the nest. If you don't swat at them they'll ignore you. They don't come back to the same nest the following year.
