Anyone who uses the A19 north of the flyover

Lane 1 (the one on the left) is for routine driving. The other 2 lanes (the one in the middle and the one on the right) are for overtaking. Driving at 50mph in lane 2 (that’s the one in the middle) whilst lane 1 (the left one remember) remains empty is dangerous and could quite easily lead to an incident that shuts the A19 and causes the road network around Teesside to grind to a halt for hours.
Whilst we are at it, if you use the A19 southbound and FILTER onto the parkway, the road has been specifically designed to FILTER onto the parkway to reduce congestion. There is no traffic lights or roundabout. Braking and reducing your speed to less than half the speed limit causes congestion and the likelihood of someone being rear ended thus creating a lane closure and bringing the road network around Teesside to grind to a halt.
Just have a little think about the above and then I will gladly explain correct lane navigation of Portrack interchange.

Since they made the alterations from Wynyard to Norton everyone assumes the far left, Southbound, lane is just a very long slip road. It is not and I agree with you Daz, it is pretty poor driving.

Then you have the Northbound exit at Wynyard. If you take the far left slip road and want to go to the services you will need to switch lanes on the exit ramp, which is a little bit dangerous. Alternatively you can connect Eastbound onto the A689 by staying in the middle lane and coming off at that slip junction. However, if the lights are on red this will cause a queue to form and in extreme instances will cause a tailback onto and into the middle lane of the A19 and that is an accident waiting to happen.

I find it hilarious the amount of drivers who drive down Dixons bank (on the way to Marton) and then turn onto the A174 (towards A19), who then immediately come off the slip road (which turns into lane 1 of the A174) to go into the overtaking lane, whilst remaining at 45/50mph, purely because they are thick as pig $h!t and fail to realise the slip road turns into Lane 1 on A174.

Which bit do you mean and above the max speed is 50 so not sure you’re point re heading to fly over.

Don’t get me started on the 50mph section southbound at Portrack. It was a temporary measure after someone crashed into and weakened the barrier on the left hand side about 2 years ago

People hog the middle lane northbound as if they stay in the left hand lane and want to go to hartlepool and nobody lets them in end up going to bishop aukland. There is a third lane however to overtake so shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Dont get me started on the newport roundabout with people who dont know what lane they need to be in

The worst offenders are those who stay in the left lane (after the Riverside turnoff) for A66 East ONLY and continue past the turn off towards the cannon park exit (they should be forced to turn left somehow a barrier maybe or borrow some of those cycle lane posts from Linthorpe Road?) ... meanwhile those of us using the correct lane for cannon park then cant move over to the left lane because some birk has decided for themselves its ok just to carry on

Davey, the problem is that curved lane line is a broken (dashed) line so rules will say it can be crossed, needs to be a solid line for about 20m.

Join at Wynyard Southbound.....3 miles (or so later) it slips off onto the Portrack roundabout. That's 3 miles of no one using the inside lane.
As for the speed limit. It has been 70mph since the work was finished (although I didn't mention speed, did I?)

*Edit
I am talking about the stretch to the flyover (Southbound) not the flyover itself.

Don't forget there is a temporary 50mph speed limit on the Fleet Road section (up to the Southbound slip on from Portrack) because of the narrow lanes above the bridge that was hit - twice.

Having watched so many dashcam videos on facebook and reading comments from utter fu*kwits who think the dashcam driver is to blame when someone crashes into them or cuts them up you lose complete faith in the driving public. The DVLA should monitor the posts and take the licenses off every single one of the stupid numpties who can’t grasp right of way or braking distances of HGVs etc.

The biggest crime for me is tailgating as some of the things I’ve seen on the A1 especially are terrifying. In the outside lane 10 cm of a speeding truck in the wet.

Mind blowing I could even think of driving that close.
