Attack v defence

Play offs really will be a lottery for us. We’re terrible defensively, but sharp up top. Just hope we can go in with confidence. Good point, in the end, but can’t keep gifting teams goals.

Come On Boro

100% Fry our best out and out defender, but (more importantly for me) Smith looks lost with paddy in there. With Dael there, Smith does his job with and without the ball. With paddy, they both panic. Hope Dael’s back sharpish

Fry has to play.
Defensively Lenihan and McNair can be a little vulnerable, but playing with Smith and Giles on the flanks is a defensive nightmare. They are now targeted EVERY match.
We desperately need Fry for defensive strength.
Is Fry injured?
If not his absence beggars belief.

If Fry isn't back then I'd start Djiksteel ahead of Smith. Djiksteel can have lapses in concentration but no way he would have allowed his man to get in behind him like Smith did today. Even when Djiksteel gets caught out he can use his speed to recover.

We will have no choice but to start McNair. In hindsight we should have signed a CB in January but the club must have been gambling on Clarke returning to fitness.

Anyone got the stats on Fry v McNair? It feels like we have worse performances with McNair but do the stats back it up? Personally I think he is a terrible defender. It's not like we have a strong defensive unit and we can accommodate one poor one that offers a bit more going forward. We are poor across the back line and need to be more dependable.

We seem to be very vulnerable to teams that go at us on the break with pace - we get overrun and panic at the back. Smith kept being drawn into the middle leaving Bell totally unmarked. There are times when the defender needs to put his laces through the ball and put it in row z rather than try and play it as Lenihan tried to do when they scored their second goal. There was a point in the second half when it looked like it was Huddersfield all over again. Lets hope our come back was the turning point.

Just a quick stat for you. Fry has missed 4 of the last 5 games. We have conceded 9 goals and have taken 2 points out of 12 in those games. The match he did play, we beat Preston 4.0!

And frys previous match to preston we won 5 nil.

In all seriousness i rate dale fry as one of the top championship defenders and the only defender at the club who could make the leap in standard to the premier league successfully hes a better defender than lenihan and than ben Gibson was for us.
