This season's promotion push brings back memories of - 97/98 and the amazing bounce back at the first attempt under Bryan Robson.​

Amazingly it is 25 years ago now. MFC are hosting a big bash to celebrate the year when we surged back to the top flight again in style.

We’re welcoming the promotion-winning Boro squad of 1997/98 back to the Riverside for an evening of celebration in May, with tickets now on sale.
It’s been 25 years since Bryan Robson’s side bounced back from the agony of relegation and two cup final defeats to seal a return to the big time in scintillating fashion.

The campaign remains one of the most fondly-remembered in Riverside history, with the Boro playing an exciting, no-holds-barred brand of football and pipping fierce rivals Sunderland to promotion on a thrilling final day, not forgetting another Wembley appearance along the way.

Paul ‘Magic Man’ Merson, one of the stars of the season, is on the guest billing, along with a host of the Boro squad that season including the likes of Mikkel Beck, Craig Hignett, Gianluca Festa, Steve Vickers, Neil Maddison, Craig Liddle, Andy Campbell and Steve Baker*.

We’re set to add more special guests to the final line-up for the dinner event, which is in the Riverside Stadium’s Legends Lounge on Tuesday 2 May.

Priced at £65pp (inc. VAT) tickets include an arrival drink and one-course meal, as well as after-dinner interactive analysis of our 1997/98 journey and a live Q&A with the former players.

You can also upgrade to a VIP ticket for £80pp (inc VAT) which adds a pre-event meet and greet and photo opportunity with the 1997/98 team.

97/98 was a really enjoyable season...one of the few over the years in the Championship. £65 is a bit steep to be fair...you could almost get two visits to the Riverside for that on a match by match basis..
 
Funnily enough I watched the season review of this year on you tube the other day as it came up on my feed and I needed something to watch whilst doing the ironing.

Good season but some shocking results mixed in there too. Made me chuckle when watching the highlights of the final game of the season as it has the sky commentary with Alan Brazil. When we scored the third or fourth goal (can't remember which) Brazil pipes up something like 'another goal and there goes the italian classical music playing again'. It's bloody Pigbag he's talking about 🤣, made me laugh so much I almost scorched my boxers!
