Competitive league games

The Cardiff game got me wondering - when was the last time we played a league game that had nothing riding on it? Last season obviously we were looking to finish as high up as possible to get the best play off draw. Season before that went to the last game when we got thumped at Preston and missed out on the play offs.

end of the covid season I guess? Wycombe hammered us. No one was there mind.

If you mean categorically Championship, when people were there, it must have been Karanka's debut season. Beat Barnsley 3-1. A full decade!

We had nothing riding on Warnock's full season in 2020/21.

We were mathematically out of play-off contention with 4 games to go, having played a game more, and had realistically been out of it for about 6 games before that.

I did say that above but no one was actually there (if that matters).

play off QTRS
4th plays 7th (at Home) A
5th plays 6th (at Home) B

play of Semi
2nd plays B (at Home)
3rd plays A (at Home)

and then a play off final
At Home of 2nd (if they win Semi) - not sure where it is if they lose, think it dfaults to highest league position of teh two clubs contesting it

It is quite good as it favours the team who finished higher in the league at all stages by giving them home advantage (and the extra gate receipts I assume)

3 of the 4 games so far in NLN went to pennas.

NL final on Sunday , NLN and NLS both finals on BH Monday
