One of the best hour's TV I've seen in a while. Beautifully put together to document this guy's life, achievements and indiscretions. It really is worth looking up on Iplayer or Catch Up.

Got me in the mood for the Olympics.

Sad that his mom never went to watch him train or compete after his dad was shot dead

Even sadder is that he only found out long after he retired that his mom had kept a shrine of his achievements at home and that she was very proud of him

What an athlete. Singlemindedness and will to be the best - even came 4th in 1988 Olympics with full on injuries.

Brilliant documentary.

I couldn't believe he wore that Carl Lewis Tee Shirt.

The Daily Mail journalist summed up the prudish outlook the tabloid press had in the 80s to our sporting heroes. Latent racism.

His battles with Jurgen Hingsen were legendary. Great to see they are really good friends to this day.

Lovely watch.

Just posted something similar (taken it gpdown now I’ve seen yours)

It was a great documentary.

His commitment to be the best was fascinating to watch and understand.

Given his upbringing it felt like he was a bit of a tortured soul and found a way of handling fame which, at times, crossed a line.

Great that he seems to have found peace with his life especially with his kids and Jurgen.

‘He didn’t grow up until he was 65’

There is hope 😳

He was one of Britain's biggest sports stars back in the day. Perhaps forgotten a bit now, unfairly.

I think he, and others, of the era have suffered from athletics not being as prestigious as it was in the 80s/early 90s. It doesn't get as much coverage anymore.

I don't think I listen to any more or less sports radio than I did then, but I could have told you who represented GB in most events, even if they were pretty average on the world stage; I'm thinking of the likes of Peter Elliot and Dalton Grant: no doubt superb athletes in their own right, but never amounted to much in Olympic terms. I don't think I could name 5 men or women in the GB team now. Laura Muir and Liz McColgan's daughter OK, then there's the guy who was WC at 10k (possibly 5k)...

One reason for that is the suspicion around doping, but I don't buy that entirely. It's just as prolific in cycling, if not more so, and cycling has grown in stature during that time, despite public cynicism.

When the BBC lost athletics rights to cover in 2010 we saw a dip in interest. The Friday nights down at Crystal Palace were legendary and it is sad to see that Stadium just mothballed.

One to look out for is Keely Hodgkinson in the 800M - genuine Gold medal chance and we have an up and coming female 800m runner in UK Champion Phoebe Gill. She has just turned 17.

I don’t think they even have the full rights for the Olympics now, I’m sure last time it was on Paramount or Discovery???

Brilliant documentary and loved the bits with Seb Coe. Sounds like he was a huge personality to have around you!!!
